I give this book five stars because Tharp actually has new and interesting things to say that have directly benefited my trading bottom line, and not just in some roundabout motivational/psychological BS type of way.
If you have a big trading library like I do and are debating whether or not to add this book to it, do it. Buy this book. Tharp's insights into position sizing, expectations and profit per day are great. He gave me some good ideas to tweak my own systems too, and brought up things I've never considered before.
The title doesn't really fit the book- the title perhaps suggests this is another pie in the sky "road to riches" guide. It isn't. It is really more a book for intermediate to advanced traders who already know the basics of how to trade and want to move to the next level. Novices would probably find it too in-depth.
Bravo, Tharp. Keep up the good work.

This book changed my life.
If you trade, then this book is the Light and the Way. I have traded and studied the markets for many years, but not until after reading this book was I able to form a clear, lucid picture of WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESSFUL TRADING. Once you understand the importance of Psychology, Exits, and Position Sizing - all brilliantly covered here - then you will be on your way to success in the markets.
This book will set you free from the oppressive chains of Newsletters, Advisory Services, Tout Sheets, etc. The impact of the study on Random Entry is truly liberating, and that section alone is worth the price of admission.
If you read this book carefully, it will forever change your views on trading and the markets.

Dr. Van Tharp's excellent book "Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom" is truly a work of groundbreaking proportions. It is the single most important book I have ever read on the subject of trading sucessfully. Using a very organized and readable format, Dr. Tharp leads the reader step by step through the maze of myths about trading and arrives at the true meaning of the Holy Grail -- that the secret of success is inside you. Dr. Tharp serves as your personal guide, taking you safely through the treacherous terriroty surrounding information about trading systems. In the end we are much wiser for the experience, arriving at our destination stronger for having completed the journey. In short, we gain the wisdom that comes with knowing one's Self and become very clear on what works...and what doesn't. By interviewing thousands of successful traders during a 15 year period, Dr. Tharp was able to find out what was common in their individual systems of success. He then created a "model" of those variables, arriving at these basic truths: Low risk ideas combined with appropriate exit strategies and position sizing create the foundation for developing successful trading systems. Dr. Tharp shares his research with the reader, supporting his conclusions with rich examples. After finishing Tharp's book, even a layman has the tools to design a highly profitable trading system that contains all the strengths common to the best trading systems but also "fits" that particular trader's personality. This book transformed my experience of trading and allowed me to trade with the confidence that comes from knowing the truth about what works. Since implementing Dr.Lesen Sie weiter... ›

Dr. Tharp's book is one of the finest trading volumes written in the past ten years, if not ever. While some books are chock full of hazy trading axioms and incoherent discussions of technical indicators, Tharp's book is clear and meaningful.
And don't let it put you off that he writes about systems. There is no expensive software or models necessary here. A complete, efficient system can be tested using a little ingenuity and an Internet connection. Indeed, Tharp evaluates everything from Warren Buffett's "system" to the more complicated ones. Even though there is a thorough examination of technical and fundamental entry points (including a brief segment on the techniques of the mysteriously successful Turtle Traders, who sell their techniques for $1,000), the point of the book is to deemphasize entry and focus on position sizing and the value of the trading system, or expectancy.
By describing R-Multiples, stop losses, and profit-taking exits, Tharp discusses a subject overlooked by 99% of market manuals, answering questions such as:
-What do I do if my position declines? Where do I sell?
-When do I know that the market move is over and take a profit?
-How much do I risk on any one trade?

Investors and traders will be surprised to learn that one can create a very successful system that is "correct" 30% of the time, and one can be very UNsuccessful with a system that is correct 90% of the time.
In this respect, Tharp's book is profound, teaching individuals the real secrets of a Holy Grail system of trading and how virtually any concept can make money if you have the right techique.
