Martha Washington always stands more than a little in the shadow of Frank Miller's DARK KNIGHT. But for me as a sci-fi fan the story of Martha is the better one. The story of her life and times, her adventures in the 21st century, her background history, and her strong and absolute will to survive are absolute great. In 1990 when the first issue of GIVE ME LIBERTY arrives on the shelfes Miller and Gibbons were on the peak of their art and storytelling. They gave Martha Washington a lot of »favors«: black skin, womanhood, poor parents. And also they gave the whole world a lot of their grim humor: dictatorship of the health police, politics at its worst, and a corrupt army with the »nome de guerre« PAX! So sit down and enjoy! In this monument of comic history - and this »Absolute Edition« is one hell of it - you find the complete three graphic novels (GIVE ME LIBERTY, MARTHA WASHINGTON GOES TO WAR, and MARTHA WASHINGTON SAVES THE WORLD) and all of the one-shots who feature Martha Washington as the hero - and a lot of bonus pages. The paper and the colors are really enjoyable, and the complete boxed book is ultra-heavy in more than one way! With this edition Martha steps out of The Batman's long shadow and stand strong and colorful in the spotlight - ready to enjoy a new generation of comicbook readers (and her old fans are more than happy with her).
