Perhaps it's because I like Paris, French cooking and baking. But the story was actually much better than I expected. It was entertaining, and I'm definitely going to try some of the recipes in the book. Definitely a book for everyone with a romantic heart and a love of the French capital. Although the story is a bit absurd and fantastic sometimes, but it didn't really bother me :)
I received a e-book copy of this book to review it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Delicious read! 22. Dezember 2013

It was a romance book, but the coolest part about the book is that each chapter ended with a French pastry recipe so that you could re-create it yourself! Throughout this story, I had to constantly remind myself that it was set in Paris, France because of the way certain things were portrayed. With that being said, I still loved the book even though I wasn't entirely familiar with the culture. It was an easy, fun read that left me wanting to keep turning the page. I loved that the end of the story ENTIRELY summed up everything, not just the current here and now, but 50 years down the road. Not to spoil it for everyone, but all does end up "happily ever after" which is how things should in fiction, right? Well, at least in a love story!
3.0 von 5 Sternen Nice mini cookbook but not as successful as a love story 23. Februar 2016

This book is the love stories of three women who work in a bakery in Paris. Each chapter ends with a recipe for an indulgent French pastry mentioned in the chapter. Conceptually, I loved the idea of a story involving food where I actually get the recipes to use myself.

Thirty French pastry recipes are included in the book such as croque en bouche, pear tarte tatin, and crepes mille. The recipe instructions are quite detailed making it feasible for anyone with even a little bit of baking experience to recreate these often fancy pastries. Honestly, I can't wait to try out some of these recipes myself.

The ladies' love stories, however, are not as successful in my opinion. I am not turned off by the author's use of foul language or candid descriptions of sexual encounters. All of the characters are "modern" women, so the adult language and behavior is appropriate for the characters. The actual love stories only occur in the last few chapters leaving them to feel rushed and somewhat unrealistic for characters two of three are up until this point skeptical of romantic relationships. The author spends 27 chapters telling the backstories of the characters only to have the main characters meet and find love in just the last 3 chapters. To me, the most realistic love story is of the old man who is a regular customer at the bakery. Multiple love at first sight love affairs in one story feels way too hokey for my liking as well.

There are also a few fantastical elements in the novella that seem out of place in the story such as the mechanism for how a rival bakery take hold of the city for multiple days that seem quite out of place in a story so grounded in a realistic world.

So, for me, I found it worked well as a small cookbook, but not as much as a love story.

I received this product for free in exchange for a review, but all opinions are honest, genuine, and my own.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A delicious love story 11. März 2016

Having read the summary of the book I thought this would be a sweet little romance novel. Keep in mind it is for mature adult audiences. For the most part I enjoyed reading the story and the tales woven in of the three "hens" in this book. At first I was not sure what to make of the story because it started a bit choppy for me, however getting further into the book I really enjoyed it. It was a quick read and the loves stories fall together well. The descriptions of the characters and their personal quirks comes through brilliantly.
As others have stated there are some parts that were trying to hard to be imaginative and might have been too much for this book, some of the scenes could have been left out and the book would have been just fine. I really enjoyed reading how the recipes tied in to each chapter and look forward to trying them out for myself. The recipes sound delicious and although they look complicated for someone who is not a professional baker, the steps are written out in such a way that almost anyone can recreate these delicacies.
Overall I enjoyed the book, I loved the artful references and they way Noelle Love described Paris I felt like I could be there walking down the streets falling in love.
I received this book at discount or free for an honest and unbiased review.
3.0 von 5 Sternen Not exactly what I was expecting... 10. April 2016

While this book was not at all what I was expecting, it turned out to be an okay book. My star ratings goes to the author's creativity, in wrapping a story around various recipes throughout. Which in my opinion, is the best part of the book offering mouthwatering images of delicious looking foods, along with their recipe, is what makes this book as far as a I am concerned. I felt the story itself is somewhat lacking, and if you find strong language to be a turn off, steer clear of this book, as even some of the recipes have cuss words within their titles.

Pros: For the most part this is an easy read book, the recipes are what makes this book. The book is well laid out, with the recipe mentioned within the chapter, at the end of each chapter displaying beautiful images of the prepared dish, along with the recipe itself.

Cons: Even though this is an easy read book, it was hard for me to get into - a little slow starting out, and its ending rather lacking and disappointing.
