Elizabeth Pennington has come to the war-torn South American country of Callivera to volunteer at a tiny mission. Kidnapped by the local rebels who are more interested in ransom than politics, she ends up at their camp in the Andes where she meets Finn MacGowan, member of the infamous Committee, a covert organization dedicated to destroying terrorism. MacGowan has been held hostage for almost three years, and he's chosen the night she arrives as the night he plans to escape. When he does, she follows him, heading down the steep mountainous terrain with another hostage, the teenage son of a Hollywood millionaire. Rebels, soldiers, traitors and near-drowning follows them on their journey. As they travel from the mountain fortress to a transatlantic freighter, an old cafe in Spain ending in a shootout at a farmhouse in France, MacGowan reluctantly falls in love, and Beth learns that the cynical, dangerous soldier-of-fortune might be worth saving after all.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

I've been writing since the dawn of time. A child prodigy, I made my first professional sale to Jack and Jill Magazine at the age of 7, for which I received $25 (admittedly my father worked for the publisher). Since then I've written gothics, regencies, romantic suspense, historical romance, series romance -- anything with sex and violence, love and redemption. I misbehave frequently, but somehow have managed to amass lots of glittering prizes, like NYT, PW and USA Today bestseller status, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America, and a decent smattering of Romantic times and RITA awards. I live on a lake in Northern Vermont with my incredibly fabulous husband. My two children have flown the coop, but the three cats do their best to keep us from being lonely. In my spare time I quilt and play around with wearable art, and the rest of the time I write write write. Apparently women of a certain age get a rush of creativity, and I'm currently enjoying it. Too many stories to write, not enough hours in the day.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Last and Best Ice Book 6. Oktober 2011

Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Synopsis: Heroine Beth is a volunteer teacher in 3rd world mission. She is captured for ransom and taken to a mountain hideout. Hero Finn, has spent 3 years as an involuntary guest of the "Guiding Light" jungle brigade, and is ready to make his escape the very night Beth arrives. She follows him, and he reluctantly takes her and others to safety in a torturous trek through the mountains and jungles that spans several days. Meanwhile, the CIA is trying to capture Finn in order to extract a complicated revenge on Isobel's husband Killian from the novel "Ice Storm".

I loved loved loved this last Ice book! It heavily involved Peter and the other agents from the Ice series, and ultimately tied up all the loose ends in a good way. The only bad part, is that it appears to be last of the Ice books. I wish she'd write more.

It didn't have the "I'm gonna kill an innocent" aspect that the other Ice books carried. The hero did threaten to have his way with the heroine, but she knew it was just bullying her to get her motivated to get off a mountain in one piece after they escaped some jungle terrorists.
There wasn't any `dubious consent' issues like the other Ice books, and the seduction scenes were perfect, well paced, and of course caliente!

I loved that the heros picked up another stray kid along the way, just like Killian did with Mahmoud. Finn is so heroic, sexy and just plain action hero larger than life awesome, and Beth is no bleeding heart liberal `save the world' type. She is smart and gutsy and stoic in the midst of crisis and chaos and grief.

Sample Dialogue:
Finn: "Then what? You've been kidnapped, twice, you've fallen off a cliff, had a knife held to your throat, fought off drugged-out rapists, watched God knows how many men die, and yet you're looking at me like I'm the big bad wolf."
Beth: "Close enough."
Finn: "You think I'm going to eat you, little girl?" he said softly.

Beth: "Did you kill him?"
Finn: "No, the tooth fairy came along and took care of him."

This book is an awesome read! It can be a stand alone, but I'd recommend buying the other Ice series books just to get acquainted with the other Committee agents.

I thought Stuart's ICE Series had ended with Reno's FIRE AND ICE. And when I heard that her publisher wouldn't be offering a contract for more, I was sad, upset, and disappointed. I wanted more ICE. I wanted MORE Anne Stuart. So you can imagine my absolute joy when I to discovered this newest book in the series, ON THIN ICE. Stuart she loves these characters as much as her fans do. Her devotion to her writing and to her loyal fans is the reason she's able to continue the series and share ON THIN ICE with us through Amazon. And for that, I will be eternally grateful to her.

ON THIN ICE is Book 6 (and hopefully not the last) book in the ICE series. It features Finn MacGowan, whom the other Committee teammates have reluctantly given up for dead, and takes place a few years after the last book. I won't get into the plot since it's been more than sufficiently covered in others reviews. What I will say is that this book is not like Stuart's other ICE books. The heroes from the first five books you've come to expect are Stuart's trademark dark, ruthless, chillingly delicious bad boys. The ICE men are killers. They do what needs to be done to complete a job and any innocents who get in the way are unfortunately just casualties for the greater good.

Not so with Finn MacGowan. MacGowan is a return to the heroes seen in some of Stuart's earlier works where black is black and white is white. There's no question who the good guy is. MacGowan is a little rough around the edges with just the right amount of danger but he's also honorable, pulls his punches, and doesn't use sex to get what he wants -- a theme that is prevalent in the other ICE books. This is a nice and unexpected change for the series and for Stuart. Stuart has always proven she can right anything, from endearing and charmingly funny (LADY OF FORTUNE), to leading men who push the envelope and can seduce you to give up your soul for just a taste of darkness (NIGHT FALL), to just the good o' boy saves the world and gets the girl romance (ON THIN ICE).

ON THIN ICE has a lot to recommend: Finn MacGowan (an honorable, endearing warrior hero out to kill the bad guys and who will do anything to protect the girl and those weaker than him), Elizabeth Pennington (a heroine who is refreshingly friendly, intelligent, doesn't get in the hero's way when there is danger, practical, and can laugh in the face of danger), and you get to see all the characters from the other books, like Taka, Reno, Peter, and Bastien. This book brings the much needed closure to the series, even though I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that there will be more ICE books to come! Go ahead and get your copy of ON THIN ICE. You won't be sorry and will fall in love with Finn and Beth as well.

I'm not quite sure what's going on (if anything) between Amazon and this author, but I find it amazing that an author of this caliber didn't get any publicity on their event pages over the past few weeks. I had to literally search the Amazon website book by book to find out that Anne Stuart had a brand new ICE book out and in mid-September. Unbelievable!!!!!!!! I would have purchased this book immediately the day that it came out. This author is just that good. I also found out from a friend that this book hasn't even been released yet to Barnes and Noble's NOOK which would certainly have given Amazon a leg up on the competition. In any event, this book was just as solid as the other ICE books. No one....absolutely no one, can write like this wonderful woman. Her male characters are "to die for." Please, please, please Anne, write more for the ICE series. I don't care if you have to bring a whole new set of characters to the committee under Peter's leadership. You just can't let this series go. Love your books. I can't wait to read more.

Anne Stuart announced about the release of the On Thin Ice, the 6th book in the ICE series when I had long given up hope that there would ever be another book in the 5-star series that I had enjoyed immensely from the minute I picked up Black Ice. For me, Anne Stuart is one of a kind; an author who manages to deliver heroes in a league of their own, passion that absolutely scorches through the pages and a love when it comes, binds the hero and heroine for all time to come. And On Thin Ice turned out to be exactly what I hoped and envisioned it to be as I finished this in almost one sitting, just taking breaks for those essential stuff in between.

36 year old Finn MacGowan is an agent of the infamous Committee, taken captive by the members of the Guiding Light that operates in Callivera, a small war-torn country in South America. Having been held captive for three long years, Finn is looking forward to the night he would make his third and final attempt at escape; the reason that he has been kept alive for as long as he has which still remains a mystery even to him.

31 year old Elizabeth Pennington, the sole heiress to the Pennington Pharmaceutical dynasty arrives in Callivera seven months back and works with the Catholic Charities of Callivera until one brutal day when everyone she holds dear is killed ruthlessly and Beth is taken captive.

Beth's savior comes in the form of the Irish man Finn who makes no secret of the fact that he would willingly leave her behind if it would mean an easier escape for him. But from the very first moment these two opposites are pitted together, Finn has a hard time acting the part of his usual cold and ruthless self around Beth who stirs his senses and literally sets him afire. Blaming his intense attraction towards the skittish and almost virginal Beth as an effect of his 3 year dry spell placates him somewhat but deep down inside, Finn knows that Beth is far more dangerous to his heart and mind than any other woman he has ever known.

A trek through the jungle, with the vicious members of the Guiding Light at their heels hell bent on vengeance and revenge, not to mention the nefarious plans of a member of the CIA tracking their progress all throughout in his own personal vendetta, the adventure aspect of the novel is as hair raising as they come and I fully enjoyed every nail biting minute of it.

The attraction between Finn and Beth is a strong and visceral one that just about took my breathe away with the sexual tension that fairly leaps out of evey single one of their encounters. Finn is the type of hero I love to allow into my dreams. Ruthless and dangerous enough to kill for those whom he loves, with an inner core of tenderness towards that one woman who rocks his world in all the ways, I would love myself a Finn any fine day! I think Finn might come a very close second in my favorite hero list from the ICE series and that is saying a lot when all of the heroes in the ICE series are unbeatable and one of a kind in their own unique way.

Beth is the type of heroine that Anne Stuart does so well. Though in her thirties and richer than the average woman could ever hope of being, Beth is calm and serenity itself and believes herself to be one of those women who would never enjoy the act of sexual relations and steers clear of anything and everything that might lead to it. Her awakening is a slow one, the senses that stir into life and makes her yearn for those things that she cannot for the life of her seem to be able to voice one of the most invigorating aspects of the novel. The way Finn seduces her, not with poetry and flowers but his brand of loving that is hard and branding in its own right just about melted me on the very spot!

I loved how characters from previous ICE books came together in this novel and learning tidbits of their lives at present just warmed me up from the inside. I especially loved the last chapter that serves as a sort of epilogue which I nearly jumped up and down after reading because lets face it, Anne Stuart is famous for leaving the reader begging for more with her books.

Everything about this novel spells perfection right from the very start though there were certain editing errors here and there which I didn't mind overly much. The only drawback; there is a feeling of finalty with how the novel ended which I think signals the end of the ICE series. I am practically a pretzel at the moment from crossing all my limbs together in the hope that I be proven wrong in the near future.

Recommended for fans of the ICE series, fans of Anne Stuart and fans of ruthless and dangerous heroes that no other hero can ever hope to compete with!

This is a dark romance/thriller book, with some light banter throughout. I will say that Finn is sweeter, just not sweet lol. The heroine Elizabeth was sweet and courageous. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop until the end.

Finn McGowwan has been imprisoned by a group of thugs for over 3 years. He doesn't know why they have kept him alive all this time, since there was no one to pay his ransom. Then on the night that he is planning his escape a nun is brought in and put in the same room as him, only she isn't a nun. Elizabeth has come to this small country to volunteer in the mission, but the priest and the other nuns are murdered and Elizabeth is kidnapped for ransom. On that night Finn gives her his first chocolate bar (he won it from one of his kidnappers), the first he's seen in three years, and then escapes.

1. Hero was sweeter than this author's usual but still he's not sweet. So readers need to know that he is verbally harsh to the heroine throughout the book. I know that he doesn't want her to form an emotional attachment to him, but starting from the middle of the book, I wanted him to be more verbally tender with the heroine. I wish that the author had written a moving scene between them towards the end, like Bastien's "if this where a different time, a different place..." speech.

2. Hero, despite being verbally harsh, was there for the heroine throughout the book, and he did some really sweet things for the heroine. Also there was some light banter between H/h throughout this book, which was really needed to balance out the dark atmosphere. I really liked how he took care of her when she was sea sick, etc.

3. I didn't understand why he wanted to leave Elizabeth behind when he was planning to escape in the beginning of the book. He knew what would happen to her if he left her behind (or at least that's the impression he gives). If she hadn't followed him, she would have ended up dead. So I sort of couldn't get over that, even though he did protect her and take care of her a lot as the story progressed.

4. There is a scene in this book that involves the H/h that is very intense and dark. Once the reader reads the name "elcista" (sp?), you would know that the scene is close, so prepare yourself.

In the end, this book was a very engaging read, and a standalone. Even though I haven't read all the Ice books, I didn't feel lost reading this book. So overall, even though the hero was a bit harsh for my tastes, this book is staying on my keeper list.
