The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in a Nutshell
am 25. August 2014
If you only want to read one book about the Near East Conflict - this will put you in touch with the core of it.
Through the personal histories of the author and his father, who was one of the major contributors to Israels victory in 1967, you get a quick and intimate course in the history of the conflict up to this present day - with many informations you will find no where else. And at the same time it is a moving story about how the harsh realities of this conflict have impacted the lives of this family and changed the author as well as his father from being hawkish zionists to peace activists. And - to top it off - this book gives hope and promotes a solution for the conflict that is so simple, logic and compelling that i am astonished this litte book is the first place i have read or heard about it.
A come from a partly Jewish family, my father escaped 1938 from Germany to Palestine and then returned to Germany as member of the Jewish Brigade Group. So i have believed for the most of my life in Israels offical version of the story. Only recently i became aware of what really happend in 1947 and afterwards and was totally shocked by what i learned from authors like Charles D. Smith, Simha Flapan, Ilan Pappe and Benny Morris (those are the ones you want to read if you want to know the full story ...) So i feel from my heart that its high time that the full story is told especially in the western media and i hope that this book and the message it promotes will help to show a way fo a peaceful Palestine/Israel.
