Just to shallow for a young adult

I love reading...mostly fantasy and fiction. When the first two movies came out I loved them instantly and the story of Narnia. Usually the book gives you more insights to the actual story and are much better...USUALLY...but I think this is not the case in the Chronicles of Narnia. I read them in the original order from Lewis in which the movies are as well, starting with "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." I think the first movie is just the same as the first book, barely any difference, the movie I liked more because there I at least could experience everything together with the characters. I have to admit though that I liked the second book more than the movie, but just because they changed some facts around, which I thought unfit. In general the story is really great...but now to the negative parts. I hated the style of writing...barely any insight to the characters. What do they think? And the way it was written, the author draws the reader out of the story constantly. There are all the time comments like bla bla bla will be in this book or what this one told to that one in the last chapter and so on. I could not dive into the story because I was always drawn out again. Furthermore I wanted the sory to develop, to read how the characters proceed and not to be told the summary in half a page from a narrator. Like I said there is so much more in there that was just left out. I wanted to know how they felt when they experienced it. I think every book should have been two or three times as big in order to do justice to the story that was in there. I guess the style of writing is just something you either like or dislike and I just couldn't get myself to like it. Three stars for the general story and the book set itself, since the box and covers and books in general are nice.
I think for small kids it might be sufficient, but not for older ones, but then again that was what it was supposed to be for...CHILDREN.
And not that I need to defend this opinion, as it is mine alone, but I have read children books which can be read by every age, such as Harry Potter or His Dark Material (the story from The Golden Compass), just to name two examples. I am really dissapointed as I was soo excited to read the the story of Narnia.
