Disappointed by the book and the authors attitude
am 27. Dezember 2016
This book has been recommended to me as, being a cell biologist myself, I bacame interesting in "moving our horizons" and was looking for a good reading in that respect. Unfortunately I was completely disappointed by this book. At the beginning the author is still able to transport biological knowledge with some really nice models but already in the biology section he includes some small flaws. That is not so serious but made me wonder how well he really knows his own topic and especially how accurate his understandings may be when he reaches out to topics he had not professionally studied himself. Anyways, what really irritated me whilst I was reading this book was the arrogant, uncritical attitude that the author displays, which is against all scientific ethos. He likes to attach citations to the facts he describes but then, and this is problematic, from these facts (which by the way are all but new!) he makes some huge leaps to his conclusions which he portrayes as they were facts (no single citations here). In this sense he appears to me no different to any of those chem trail, aluminum hat conspiracy trolls that you find massively on the Internet.
I would have really liked to read a book that introduces novel research and theories and puts these side to side with our current knowledge. The only purpose of this book however is that the author wants to convince you of his own self made theory. Honestly, I don't like any books that just try to convince me (in a religious kind of fashion) about anything. I prefer to think and judge myself.
If anyone knows some serious writing on such topics it is very welcome!
