I think that this book was just as much a coffee table book of photos then it is a recipe book.

For the most part the recipes do seem quite decent though there are perhaps not as much of them as you might expect from a book this size. They all seemed pretty standard recipes as well.

The photos are very nice though the accompanying text is a little pedestrian.

It is a huge book which could be a bit of a hindrance in the kitchen if you are following one of the recipes.

I did quite like it but it is quite pricey and I think that people's rating of it will probably depend on whether or not they buy it as purely a recipe book.

This is not simply a cookbook but a lovingly crafted record of the author's love of India and Indian cooking. The nature of regional cuisine is explored with different spice blends and ingredients explained. There are numerous colour photographs of India and its people.

The book is structured around different regions and details the author's travels through the area. This includes the dishes eaten, people met and descriptions of the landscape.

The hardcover is a big, heavy book and it is not something that you would have in the kitchen to get splashed with oil but it is stunningly beautiful.

The recipes are easy to follow and although they are detailed they do not have ridiculously obscure ingredients. If you are used to Indian cooking you will have most of the ingredients needed. These recipes are a mix of everyday food and special occasion food. Everything I have cooked from it has worked well. My only criticism would be that the book could have done with more pictures of the recipes featured and less of the travel photos.

If you want a beautiful, detailed book rich in colour and flavour then this is your book.

I read the reviews of this book and wondered how a non-native could create such hype with an Indian cookbook so I ordered a copy through our library. Then I discovered one of the most visually beautiful visits to India that anyone could hope have between the covers of a book.

The real test would come by cooking up a few dishes and that proved equally satisfying as well. Then I had to track down a copy of own. This book is worth searching for.

Love this book! Starting with the brilliant cover- velvety, vibrant, enticing- just like Indian cuisine! The photography within is extraordinary and the recipes week explained by region and delicious. It's the most lovely cookbook I own!

I waited over a year to buy this beautiful gem of a book. I bought the book "like new" and the condition was perfect. The outer cover is as beautiful as a silk sari. The photos are gorgeous (although I got the impression Christine went on a whirl win 10 day trip taking photos and staying at Taj Hotels-she's wearing the same clothes in almost every pic). The recipes aren't anything unique that I don't already own, but it's wonderful to own something I have longed to own for such a long time.
