"Take the High Road," the first of the Irish Odyssey Series, celebrates the deep faith, determination and resiliency of the Irish. Fictitious characters come to life in these pages and they become typical examples of faith, determination and resiliency in the face of religious persecution, and repressive laws and regulations that lead to starvation, banishment and, in nearly a million cases emigration from their beloved Ireland. Brian O’Boyle, orphaned by the starvation and fever of the rest of his family, suffers doubts and fears and the anguish of loneliness, but with God’s help through his guardian angel, Augie, he presses on.
The O’Donnell’s, on the other hand, are a prosperous merchant family who are forced to leave their ancestral home and prospering business because they refuse to renounce their faith. The story unfolds around them as they adjust to their new and unexpected reality and travel the high road to their new life.
