HASH(0x9311e9b4) von 5 Sternen No frills Tagine 14. Mai 2014
Von Joanne - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
It is a book of decent recipes, but the book itself is rudimentary and looks like someone made it at home. Not a book you would gift to someone, but a book you'd keep as a phamplet, holding extra recipes if you wanted to have more choices to make. No pictures at all, like i said, rudimentary and no frills. The recipes themselves seem easy and uncomplicated. Most use meat but some are vegetables only. Most are cooked in oven but a few on stovetop. I am making my third recipe as I type this. The Shrimp with vegetables was outstanding, the mix of spices in the sauce was like a Moroccan-style cioppino. A Keeper. Had the book been clearer in all ways and not just in metrics (more on that in 2nd paragraph), I would have given this a higher rating.

I look over a recipe and read it through before making it. One of the recipes I had planned to make was so jumbled up, it was hard to believe. Usually the ingredients are listed in order of use on a printed recipe, but this recipe had them listed "any which way you can," making it hard to sequence in my mind, yet alone in practice, the making of this dish. The other recipes I have made, three now, were not written in such a chaotic way but today's recipe said put in oven but no temp given, so I used 350. Once you go thru the ingredients and steps, most recipes are fairly easy, some using an assortment of Moroccan spices and others using just one, like the one I am making tonight, ras el hanout which is a mixture of spices. I add my own touches like S&P and harissa to make it spicy.

As mentioned above, it is important to note that the author is from Yorkshire, so most of the measurements are in milliliters and grams, which doesn't bother me bc I use a digital scale to measure most dry ingredients buy may be off-putting to others. When measuring in cups for nuts, liquids, sugar, dried fruit, etc., however, I don't use a scale. This author does, and still uses milliliters and grams to measure, so beware if that doesn't work for you. Teaspoons and tablespoons thankfully are measured as such. She also uses Celsius for oven temps, so you will need to know a few conversions for that. The "look inside" feature of the book doesn't show any recipes. Had I seen the extensive use of metrics, I might have skipped over this book myself! Perhaps that was a deliberate 'oversight' to omit that for that reason. Like I said, I didn't invest a lot of cash for this, it is what it is. I will write more when I try a recipe or two, that to me will be the final test.

Having visited Morocco several times and also because I am a personal chef, I especially enjoyed this book. For those not familiar with Moroccan cuisine, this book is highly recommended.
