The famous work "The Golden Ass" or "Metamorphosis" was written by a Latin of African origin that lived in the second century AD. The imagined story speaks of a man who walked by wrong ways, and has lived there a great suffering, but one day he decided to descend to the depths of himself, to acknowledge his own mistakes and came to mend them.
«The being that, descending into himself, accepts find the own 'shadows' and dialogue with them, that is, with what he ignores, rejects or despises from himself, will get out enriched and strengthened by these experiences. He also found during this exploration, deep dynamics that, if he becomes aware of them, experience them and marry them with all its lucidity, certainly they will transform him. » (Franz 1997: p. 11. Fr. Ed.)
These unconscious dynamics are rarely perceived by the subject who is having problems. The painful states he crosses blind him and he only sees the suffering caused by his own neurosis. But through this process the subject can become what he really is: one deeper and broader being. To achieve these results it will have to renew his central nucleus, or because this was not yet matured, was faulty or was broken.
«This unique interior adventure and infinitely diversified, it is not addressed, understandably, to a single category of persons: 'the patients'. Some people are just trying to cure the symptoms that paralyse their lives and others, an expansion and enrichment. For others still, it will be an irresistible appeal, under menace of destruction, to try the research, the interior adventure. Hence the less educated will succeed if they have the intelligence of the heart and righteousness, and the various stages of life are adequate to do so. Their forms are as numerous as the number of individuals that exist and, at all times, she has held the interest of humanity. She reflects on the myths and religions, legends, sagas and cycles of stories, such as the Round Table, in the various spiritual paths and societies of initiation and, finally, in the symbols of natural transmutations that transmits to us the traditional alchemy. On a more individual level, at the same time that they are part of the deep soul of his time, the great works of art, those whose inspiration comes from the unconscious, they have the same origin. » (Franz,1997: pp.11-12. Fr. Ed.)
The novel "The Golden Ass" or "Metamorphosis" who’s central figure is the young Lucius, who did come from good families, highly educated, and describes the adventures and sufferings through which he has passed. Lucius was a young man who behaved with the women like an authentic animal. Like animals do, he only saw in human females, it means in the women, the sexual pleasure and did not get involved with them with affection and seriously, a wrong behaviour that carried him to sink into the depths of despair. In the midst of so much suffering that increased incessantly without a solution in sight, suddenly came the hope of liberation, because it is from the darkness that comes the light, thanks to the natural force of cohesion that exists in each of us, to which Jung called “Transcendental Function”, “Self” and that others call “God”. An experience so important transformed the life of Lucius because he experienced till the maximum extent the anguish and the suffering caused by a meaningless life due to walk by wrong ways! The same that has happened to Lucius can happen to any human being who is immersed in the suffering and in the darkness of a meaningless life. One such person if properly oriented, she can suddenly find out, born from their own rot, a beam of light that will illuminate her lifetime!
