From a few days without electricity to an unexpected job loss or total chaos after the destruction of a tornado, Survival Mom provides everything you need to become self-reliant and establish plans for your family, including:

Whether you're a full-fledged "prepper" or just getting started, with real-life stories and customizable forms and checklists along with Lisa's "you can do it" attitude, Survival Mom replaces paranoia and panic with the peace of knowing YOU have the power to keep your loved ones safe and secure.

"Survival Mom" covers the basics including food storage, water purification, financial and medical preparedness and communication during a crisis. It goes way beyond the basics, however, with the addition of charts, checklists and worksheets to help you stay organized.
A great way to get ready for that 6.5 to 7.5 quake we know will happen someday in San Francisco.
If you've been wanting to get your wife more involved in preparedness then get her this book! She might finally understand what you've been going on about!
If so, you will love this book, Survival Mom: How to Prepare Your Family for Everyday Disasters and Worst-Case Scenarios
by Lisa Bedford.
Chapter One sets the tone for the entire book, "Prepare More, Panic Less." This is the message that comes through loud and clear. It matters not what the motivation is for our family preparations (whether natural disaster, job layoff, illness or something bigger), Lisa Bedford takes us step by step from awareness to action, starting with her own story in the introduction entitled "From Suburban Mom to Survival Mom."
Let's face it, the media is grabbing ahold of this "prepping" movement and is bringing it into the forefront and making it mainstream. People who never thought about storing food, water or extra blankets are now taking cues from tornado and hurricane survivors and packing 72 hour kits. With the reality shows such as "Doomsday Preppers" (no matter what your opinion of it, the show is topping the ratings and people are becoming aware of the need to prepare) and its copycats "Doomsday Bunkers" and those to follow, there are some Doom-and-Gloomers out there who are preaching panic and preying on those who are panicking.
Lisa Bedford's message says not so fast! On page 15 she recites "The #1 Rule of Preparedness... Do your best where you are with what you have."
From water to sanitation, food to organization and decluttering, from home security to survival finances, gardening, growing, preserving to living without electricity, from just starting out to seasoned "preppers" this book is one to have. Survival Mom was birthed and penned by a real-life wife and mom to other moms (but men can definitely identify) laid out in terms, reasoning and actions that we moms understand and relate to.
Great book to have on hand for the extensive checklists and information and it's the one that I will give to my family members who have not begun yet and don't know where to begin.
This book is for the whole family and has resources to get the whole family involved.

I am an independent reviewer. I did not receive payment for my review, nor was there any expectation of a positive review. I did receive a copy of the book to complete my review.
This would be great even for singles; For example, I could have really used the chapter on "Staying Cool When It's Hot" when I was a single girl living in Florida through the (way too many) hurricanes-and I thought I knew everything there was to know about staying cool when it's hot (I didn't but I do now!). It's filled with the best checklists and planning pages I've ever come across in an emergency preparedness book thus far, and I have read most of them out there. I do admire Aton Edwards, James Rawles, etc, and those guys are awesome, of course. This is "Best In Category" of family preparedness, as it covers the most practical things for families in their current (possibly suburban?)situation. Meaning, if you don't have a fortune to just move out west to the Redoubt and start homesteading (though that is probably a option to consider...)but instead you just need to make the best of what you have, right where you're at, to be ready for anything, this is the book.
I love the way Lisa is down-to-earth, practical, and entertaining- yes, this book is even fun to read. It came across as one best friend writing to another (that is, if you have a very wise, inspiring, optimistic, and very prepared best friend). I can't wait to start reading the books on the list under "Fun Survival Literature for Kids." This covers topics you'd expect, like investing, metals, food storage, medical emergencies, bug-out-bags, all the usual topics, but also includes other things such as dealing with clutter and organization, how ladies carry guns, how to develop a second income stream, and even how to deal with being "unplugged," (Yikes, right?!).
If you are on the fence like I was on whether or not to spend money on yet another "preparedness" book- do yourself a favor and order this one. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but there really is more information in the book than on her blog.
Lisa, if you're reading this, Thank You for putting forth what was obviously a lot of time, effort, and personal sacrifice to produce such a complete manual to help all us moms get our act together today, not just for some future scenario but for our everyday lives. It was an inspiring, uplifting read. Great Job!! -(NCGardenGirl)
