LAPD Detective Harry Bosch as we've never seen him before, in an exclusive eBook containing three compelling short stories

In SUICIDE RUN, the apparent suicide of a beautiful young starlet turns out to be much more sinister than it seems. In CIELO AZUL, Bosch is haunted by a long-ago closed case - the murder of a teenage girl who was never identified. As her killer sits on death row, Bosch tries one last time to get the answers he has sought for years. In ONE DOLLAR JACKPOT, Bosch works the murder of a professional poker player whose skills have made her more than one enemy.

Whether investigating a cold case or fresh blood, Bosch relentlessly pursues his quarry, always on the lookout for the "tell". In this first collection of Harry Bosch stories, Michael Connelly once again demonstrates that he is 'the greatest living American crime writer' (MIRROR).

... also if the first two stories of this collection seem to be written as some kind of first or max second draft, to be - maybe - elaborated later...

I like Michael Connelly and the way he writes and I love Harry Bosch, and so I would buy also a shopping list of those two long-time friends of mine.
But this time, because of some missing pieces, only a 4-star rating.

In SUICIDE RUN I had the feeling that the story came absolutely to an much too abrupt end...
There was far more potential in the story than has been utilised by the author. Hollywood, a young, very beautiful "Marylin Monroe" - called like that because of the way she - apperently - chose her exit out, the search for similar cases - there should have been more. But it's an easy read and got my interest.

The second one CIELO AZUL is the one that has a more of humaneness inside than the usual crime short stories...
Harry Bosch drives up to St. Quentin to ask a killer awaiting to meet the Needle ONE question - only that a killer is always a killer for some reason. And that a man of his kind hasn't one shred of humanity left in his flesh, blood and bones. A very gripping but sad, sad read.

The third story is the longest of the three and also the most elaborated. In ONE DOLLAR JACKPOT Harry Bosch has to find the killer of a beautiful poker player, shot dead without even register that fact. And there will be our hero Harry who has learned a trick or two from his now estranged ex-wife - and that will nail a killer for good!

I am not too angry about the excerpt of

2.0 von 5 Sternen Love Connelly......But! 3. Oktober 2011

I won't further elaborate on what the other reviewers have already stated about this not being up to Connelley's standards, though I agree. I might have been able to overlook that, after all nobody can be at the top of their game all the time, and well Bosch is still Bosch and always worth the read. However, I finished this book in under 30 minutes, not just one story...the book. These weren't short stories, they were barely longer than an average book description. What was really bad was that 1/4 of the entire book is a preview for "The Drop". I don't want to just read a couple of chapters of a book and then wait another two months to continue.

The skill set, experience and cunning of Detective Harry Bosch are on full display in these short, but fulfilling stories by Michael Connelly.
Taken from the perspective of different time periods over the career of Bosch's life, with snippets from his time as a boot to a wizened career veteran, these stories reveal his interactions with several of his partners.
Some are a hoot, others break your heart, but all capture the essence of a man who truly feels, "Every one counts."
Suffice to say Connelly's talents are on full display, even in the short-form.

Suicide Run - 3 Harry Bosch Stories
This was a great set of short stories that kept me engaged. He is a great police detective and part scaliwag - a person who behaves badly but in an amusingly mischievous rather than harmful way - a rascal. The important thing is he gets the job done. A little melancholy, but entertaining. Zoe

SUICIDE RUN, a Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. It is always fun and rewarding to read Harry Bosch regardless of whether he is the prime investigating detective for a full-length novel or a short vignette as in Suicide Run, Cielo Azul, and One-Dollar Jackpot. The cool analytical manner in which Bosch conducts an investigation, his ability to read a suspect’s mind and the patience he projects in pursuit of the truth are personal attributes we would like all of our public defenders to possess. Some readers complained about the price, others were unhappy because the stories were too short. As for the price, I thought it was fair; and it was fun to read three totally different short stories all headed up by Detective Bosch. I give the box set a 5-star rating.

Michael Connelly is one of those mystery writers I perennially enjoy, but I tend to read him in batches rather than stay up with his book or two a year output. I don’t know why. I just like bingeing on the characters I guess. I binged recently, spent a day with Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller and had a good time. I’ve got more of Connelly’s books loaded into my iPad so I’ll get to those at some point.

Suicide Run is a collection of three long short stories or novellas, whichever you prefer. Reading each of them is like downing a slice of pizza. It’s really easy to reach for the next slice because it’s right there.

All three of them have different things to offer, so you can’t really compare them because they stand on their own merits.

“Suicide Run” is interesting, but really turned out to be too easy to figure out. However, it was good to see Harry in action with Jerry Edgars again, though it’s awfully easy not to like Edgars. The clues are all there, and it’s nice seeing Harry in the role of teacher to young Kiz Rider, who ends up playing an important role in Harry’s life later in his career.

The mystery isn’t too hard to solve, but as always, Connelly makes the trip interesting as Harry works the case detail by detail. I love how Connelly has a real view of Harry’s life and can slip back and forth in his character’s timeline.

“Cielo Azul” is a two-fer. We get to see Harry in action, as well as Terry McCaleb, who was the protagonist of Bloodwork and A Darkness More Than Night, both solid books. I enjoyed watching them together, seeing how they worked as well as how they were different.

The story structure in this one is really interesting because Connelly plays with time, sliding back and forth from the past to the present to get us to a chilling end that will leave readers anxious.

The poker player angle in “One Dollar Jackpot” is a nice set piece that shows a softer side of Harry to a degree, but also shows how conniving he can be once he knows a perpetrator’s mindset. At that point it’s always game one.

The three stories are great little reading snacks to enjoy at lunch or before you drift off to bed, and the ebook price puts them a one cool dollar apiece. You just can’t go wrong with this one.
