Kurzbeschreibung

Twenty-two-year-old Alessandro Silva knows that returning to tiny Perch Creek to help his foster mother was the right thing to do. With no degree and a delinquent's reputation, he's lucky to have landed a job waiting tables. But not everyone is happy he's back, and the only thing keeping his move home from being a total bust is his boss's hot brother.

Jaime Winters spent most of his life watching the world go by, first from a series of hospitals and then from behind big stacks of textbooks. Studying is easier than facing the fact that years of heart failure means he's still a virgin at twenty-three. Until the new waiter in his sister's diner awakens desires he'd long ago given up on.

The last thing Alessandro wants is to fall for someone as fragile as Jaime. And Jaime may have a new heart, but he's scared of what giving it to another person would mean. Their no-strings-attached, instructional approach to sex keeps emotion safely at bay, until a secret from Alessandro's past forces them to confront their feelings in the present…

I really adore this book. Well-written and really sweet. This long sex-scene with Ezra was not exactly necessary in my opinion but everything else is 5 stars.
I would recommend it to everyone looking for a tender, enjoyable read. It is not the newest story but it includes everything: love, crime and tension. Wonderful!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Uneven but good 7. März 2014

I had wildly different reactions to different aspects of the story. Some of them were good, some meh, and one blew my socks off.

The main story line, that of Alessandro and Jaime, was actually the biggest meh—yes Jaime’s gay, yes he’s completely inexperienced, yes Alessandro can cure him of that, and of course they will both fall in love. Nothing exactly wrong with it, aside from a certain paint-by-number effect as each lesson is laid out. But still, not especially gripping. Jaime’s heart transplant serves mostly as a vehicle to get him to 23 and never been kissed. Kind of a wasted opportunity—any feelings he has about living on someone else’s heart or the more practical aspects aren’t strong on the page.

Alessandro’s past as a troubled teenager in the foster care system and how it’s affecting his life now made me sit up and take interest. He can both see himself in his youngest foster brother and try to mentor him to a better path. Unlike Jaime’s heart transplant, ten year old Tony, his actions and his attitudes matter to this story. He makes Alessandro pop as a character and as a good man who might not always have been so good. An old high-school nemesis lives in town, and while by himself he’s only 2.5 dimensional, he also prods Alessandro into examining moral choices.

Another good aspect is that there is a sense of the characters having lived before they arrive on the page, rather than coming into existence where the book opens. This is largely a function of interactions with secondary characters. Eunice, the foster mom, and Jaime’s sister Shannon were fully fledged people and added to the depth of story.

Where my socks and I parted ways: Alessandro takes Jaime to a club in Wilmington. This was the standout section of the book, and the reason I will return to this story. Both in the club and after they leave it, the actions and interactions are one of the most amazing demonstrations of caring, concern, uncertainly, blossoming, and hawtness ever. It’s perfect within the framework of their relationship. Anyone who wants to whine about cheating here should quit clutching their pearls so tightly and go back to reading het. It isn’t cheating, it is growth, and it’s beautiful all the way around. The reviewer who never bookmarks has this section bookmarked.

The book had a feeling of unevenness that plateaued out at a higher level past the midpoint, so while the first half didn’t do a lot for me, the second half certainly did. The club scene especially, and while I want to rate high for that alone, the rest of the book isn’t really keeping up with it. This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it certainly won’t be the last.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Really awful 25. Mai 2014

Started off well in the first chapter and then it was like it completely lost direction. One of the main characters was described as cute(with a heart condition) and average. Suddenly from being a shy, unsure person he turns into a gay version of Paris Hilton, with his finger handing out of his mouth mouthing, "I'm Hot". One visit to the local gay bar and everyone is wild for him as he's such a stud (huh)and this shy cautious, unsure man starts to participate in group semi public sex...UUUGH...really a huge turn off apart from the fact the author seems to think we need to have every fourth page turned into a graphic sexathon. I have never bothered to finish this..If I could give this half a star I would

I had to throw that in there. This is one of the better gay romance stories I've read recently - that's mostly because there was actual gay sex in it! In all honesty though, I really appreciated the honesty in the writing. It was not sappy or whiny, but it did have the true fears someone goes through when first experiencing sex and I loved the angle the author used there. I highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed

4.0 von 5 Sternen Sweet, Funny, and Very Sexy! 17. Februar 2014

Well, it's official; I have dipped my toes into the m/m genre, something I never thought I would do. I have to tell you, I really like it! Now, I'm not going to be giving up my "traditional" romances, eve, but now that I know good m/m can be found, I'll be revisiting this genre again.

I blame my change of heart on Brigid Kemmerer's YA paranormal, SECRET, which I recently read and loved. While talking to other readers, finding some recommendations, and digging through GR and Amazon, I came across A.M. Arthur. After reading a few reviews, I felt like this might be a good place to start. It was my lucky day when I found No Such Thing up on NG! I can honestly say that I am very glad I requested this title!

I liked Ale and Jaime, they were the perfect mix of sweet and sexy, both as individual characters, and, of course, as a couple. I loved the chemistry and growing connection between them as well.

No Such Thing was very sexy and there was plenty of heat between these two young men. The scene at the gay bar both fun and extremely hot, as was the scene at Ezra's house right after that. I'll admit, I was kind of hoping that particular scene would be gone a bit further, but I can see now that Jaime and Ale have plenty of time to experiment, if they both wish to; right now it's about the two of them.

There's a few issues in town, including a few fights with the local idiots who hate gays, which helped to add some tension to the book.

My only complaint? The ending felt a bit too quick, and left me hanging.

I enjoyed No Such Thing, and finished it very quickly. I will definitely be trying more books by this author, and in fact I can't wait to see what book 2 will be like!

If, like me, you are tempted to try some m/m romances, I would suggest picking up No Such Thing. I'm not an expert on the genre, but I can tell you this: I loved following this cute couple, through the good and the bad.

4 STARS!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not quite what I was hoping for (MILD SPOILAGE) 28. Februar 2015

I have been an AM Arthur fan for a while, so reading the synopsis (of this and the following 2 in the series) it seemed like a no-brainer for me. Unfortunately, this one had a few hang ups that kept it from reaching the usual 4 stars and up for me. The biggest problem I had was that Jaime was painfully shy and extremely self-conscious, had never been on a real date, had a real boyfriend, and was still a virgin. So how is it that the very first night Ale takes him out to a club, Jaime's on the dance floor grinding between Ale and a string of various strangers? And still on the dance floor when Ale had to take a break? Him getting the "go ahead" nod from Ale as permission still didn't make that situation sit right with me. I know some people think stuff like that is hot to watch their partner, but like I said, it didn't jibe with who Jaime was supposed to be. And Ale and Jaime going home with Ezra and Romy? And the little touchy-feely "mirror" game they were playing? And then going at it like animals in Ezra's living room? All of that was a little bit tacky to me. And Jaime can't drink, so he couldn't even blame it on alcohol! Oh, and Jaime thought it was hot to let Ezra watch him giving Ale a BJ, but he yanks the blanket up when Ezra spots his surgery scar. (rolling my eyes & making a face) And why was there so much talk of having sex with other people? None of this fit with Jaime's character, even if being with Ale gave him a bit of confidence. Also, Ale's foster brother was a major pain in the a**. And the perpetrators of the bathroom attack, just didn't fit as well into the story seeing who it was. That attack was way too vicious for 2 little kids who didn't know him or have anything against him personally.

Other than all of the above, I did like both Jaime and Alessandro, and I enjoyed most of the story. The ending was sweet but a bit of a downer because of the state that Ale was in. Hopefully there will be an update on these 2 (a happy one) in the next installment, and hopefully the next installment will be a little better put together (especially since I bought all 3 at once).
