5.0 von 5 Sternen Spectacular pics, plus Bird song CD. The best. 23. Dezember 2016
Von david k miller - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This five star field guide has multiple pictures of each species, from males and females to juvenile of each and various colorations from different geographical locations. That's just the beginning of useful information provided. Flight patterns, feather length and distribution, body dimension, winter, summer and migratory areas just to name a few. The kicker is the bonus CD of some six hundred beautiful bird song. I have owned other field guides that were more compact or weighed less and a bigger book listed as a field guide that was unwieldy but this one is a perfect balance of weight, easy-to-use size and an amazing amount of information. Top that with Amazon's great low price and this is a must have purchase for any bird enthusiast whether expert or novice.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Book with 1 concern 15. Oktober 2010

Received this book and was mesmerized. Wonderful photos and descriptions. Being a bird nerd, I found that the book is too large and heavy (almost 3 pounds)for carrying in the field. I will keep it in my vehicle for an excellent reference source.
5.0 von 5 Sternen The Best of Photographic ID Guides to Birds of North America 8. Juli 2014
Von Steven Mlodinow - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The best photographic guide available. The Stokes picked the minds of several of North America's finest birders to create this guide, which has a treasure trove of useful identification marks that are accurate. Indeed, it is the equal or superior of the National Geographic Guides or Sibley's in this regard. Often, subspecies differences are succinctly reviewed and known hybrids are mentioned. The range maps are highly accurate. The photos cover a wonderfully broad spectrum of plumages for a photographic guide, using high quality, crisp photos. It is the only photographic guide I refer to frequently. Paired with either the National Geo Guide or Sibley, and you are prepared to research nearly any ID of birds in the USA and Canada (minus Hawaii).
5.0 von 5 Sternen A REAL TREASURE 17. Juli 2013

AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS, I WAS CONCERNED THAT IT WOULD BE TOO COMPLICATED OR ADVANCED FOR MY USE. I"VE BEEN A CASUAL "BIRDER" ALL MY LIFE BUT SINCE RETIRING & ABLE TO SPEND MORE HOURS OUTDOORS, I BECAME MORE AWARE OF ALL THE DIFFERENT BIRDS IN THE VACINITY. TO MY SURPRISE THERE WERE MANY THAT WERE UNFAMILIAR TO ME. I FIND THIS GUIDE TO BE VERY EASY TO USE. THE SPECIES ARE DIVIDED BY CATEGORIES THAT MAKE SENSE TO ME AND WITH JUST A FEW BASIC OBSERVATIONS OF THE PARTICULAR BIRD, I'M ABLE TO LOCATE AND IDENTIFY THAT PRECISE BIRD. THE PICTURES WITH DESCRIPTIONS OF HABITATS, HABITS, FLYING STYLE AND OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION ALL MAKE FOR A VERY CONCEISE AND ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE. I JUST RETURNED FROM SEVERAL WEEKS IN THE POCONOS...THE BOOK WAS ALWAYS CLOSE AT HAND & MADE FOR A MUCH MORE INTERESTING VISIT.
5.0 von 5 Sternen This book is one of the best bird books I have. 21. August 2013

This book is very wonderful. The pictures are clear, colorful, and makes it seem as though they are live birds in there! It wonderfully describes the birds in clear yet accurate descriptions. There are tips on how to I.D. them; it gives their range, habitat, voice, if there are subspecies or if it hybridizes any other bird that results in a different color morph. It has adult plumage, shape, juvenile plumage, winter, (if it changes plumage) and flight. And it has pictures accompanying these. For example, this book has 23 pictures for the Red-tailed Hawk. This book has also aided me in seeing a wild Gargany in Missouri. It is worth the investment. I really like this excellent book. (This one had a Bonus CD with 150 bird species calls and songs.) The songs and calls are clear and easy to hear.
