Hier gibt's meinen Kommentar, den ich bereits für das Steve Hoffman Audiophile Forum gepostet habe:

I received my copy the other day, and am a happy man, right now. Some may want to know the sources, recordings dates and venues of the featured shows. For some reason, perhaps to avoid copyright hassles, all the booklet reveals is the state they were recorded in - wow, now that's what I call a service for the serious collectors, eh?

Anyway, here goes:

1. "Philadelphia" (should be "Pennsylvania", eh?): Philly ('course), Sigma Sound Studios (w/small audience), 21/12/1974 (FM).

2. "California": Los Angeles, Record Plant Studios (w/small audience) 5/29/1974; KMET-FM is the source. I don't know though if this show was ever really b'cast because I've NEVER seen it in any collector's list. Six tracks from this show already appeared as bonus tracks on the 1999 re-release of Bridge of Sighs (and BOS reappears here for some reason).

3. "Illinois": Chicago Amphitheatre 12/03/1976. This is the show that King Biscuit Flower Hour recorded and aired a 30 min. portion of back in the day. That radio show is being streamed by Wolfgang's Vault, BTW. Alas, that selection is pretty boring as it contains only tracks that are also featured on the "Live" album which was released just before the autumn 1976 tour along which this show was taped. On this CD here we fortunately get at least other numbers from that show and off the then new "LONG MISTY DAYS" - album. And some are even unique to this CD, such as "Sailing" (an extremely rarely played number), "Same Rain Falls", and the album's title track. "Sailing" and "Long Misty Days" are unique to that tour, AFAIK.

Influential guitarist Robin Trower emerged in the late 1960s as a member of Procol Harum before going on to earn further acclaim as a bandleader. State to State: Live Across America 1974 1980 charts his rise to fame throughout the 1970s, from small clubs to major stadiums.

The collection features 24 previously unreleased live performances recorded in Philadelphia and California (1974), Illinois (1976), Oklahoma (1977) and Missouri (1980). Among the standout tracks are several songs from his gold-certified breakthrough Bridge of Sighs (1974), including "Too Rolling Stoned" and "Day of the Eagle."

Robin back in the '70's with a great cross-section of venues and attitude. For the completest, this is a must. There are some extended versions of the now-classics as well as a chance to hear some material performed live from the 1980 period. It is cool to hear some standards introduced as "not yet recorded" or "off our new album."

The playing is stellar and the sound quality varied depending on the show, but overall it is leaps an bounds better than the typical bootleg (it would have been nice if Chrysalis edited out the mic pop on the first song...)

Even if you have all of Robin's other live releases, this one is worth picking up for the nuances and spirited guitar work. James Dewar is also at the top of his game and it is worth hearing his incredible vocal stylings.

If you are a fan, why wouldn't you pick up this 2CD set?? Get it!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Premier Power Trio 31. Oktober 2013

This is a 2013 Chrysalis Records two CD release. The set contains twenty-four previously unreleased live tracks, recorded at five separate venues between 1974 and 1980. There is no new material; all the tunes have been released either as studio and / or earlier live recordings. Robin Trower wrote or co-wrote the vast majority of the material. James Dewar co-wrote ten of the twenty-four tracks. The total playing time is approximitely 110 minutes.

The band consists of Robin Trower (guitar), James Dewar (bass, vocals), Reg Isadore (drums: Disc 1) and Bill Lordan (drums: Disc 2). The legendary bassist, Rustee Allen contributes some very soulful bottom on "Somebody Calling" and"Bluebird".

During the period 74 -80, Robin Trower and his mates were the number one power trio in the U.S. Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, two bands that had carried the Blues/Rock trio mantle, ceased to exist as active touring or recording entities.

Filling the musical vacuum was Robin Trower, who'd honed his soulful guitar chops as a major contributing member of the hugely successful Procol Herum. However, he soon grew restless with Procol's musical direction. His muse was a harder edged rock steeped in soul and blues influences.

In order to achieve his goal, he brought on board the drummer Reg Isidore, blues musician extraordinaire. Reg went on later in his career to record and tour with musical legends, Jimmy Witherspoon and Peter Green. James Dewar one of the most soulful blues vocalists ever raised in Scotland was hired to mostly interpret Robin's songs. His bass playing was also a chief asset to the band.

Disc one, containing 10 tracks taken from two 1974 concerts, represent the above mentioned band members. The audio is remarkable for the sound system that was available at the time. All the tunes are well known to RT fans but the actual live performances reflect a fresh energy and creativity within the playing. The solo stretches are original and reach new musical plateaus. Some of the material is introduced to the audience for the first time, yet to be released.

Disc two contains the same lineup with the exception of the drummer. Bill Lordan, who was brought on board to replace Reg. The fourteen tracks from three separate concerts are flawless and the audience response reflects their respect and enthusiasm for the band.

It's interesting to think what this band could have achieved with these individual artists in the nineties and beyond. Sadly, the heart and soul of the band, James Dewar was incapacitated in 1987, due to a botched medical procedure. His musical career ended, he survived in a very diminished capacity until 2002. Although Robin Trower went on to successful commercial and critical collaborations with other major artists, his tenure with James Dewar was never replicated.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Trower is excellent live 2. Januar 2014

This is a great compilation from '74 to'80. Robin Trower's music translates great in a live setting.
I have seen Trower perform live many times beginning in 1977 and most recently in 2010. I have really enjoyed this live set of 2 CDs.

Just crank it up and imagine yourself right there!

Robin Trower's more recent albums like Another Days Blues(2005), What lies beneath(2009),The Playfull Heart(2010) and Roots and Branches(2013) sound great with Davey Pattison on vocals, the best with Trower since Dewar.

Anyway,I love it and hope you will as well...Geo

i had the fortune of seeing robin trower at winterland where he had to open for sha na na. oh the humanity. heck trower and cohorts were on fire that night. and in total ignorance i didnt even know his formative days were with procol haurm yeah those were early days for sure. in winterland that night i watched a guitarist work his magic. a bass player with a fine rock voice and a drummer that knew where the off beats and accents were most needed. yes three piece rock and roll. now for the reader of this review think of other 3 piece bands. now pick the 3 piece that sucked. you cant ha ha ha lol so robin trower is a great band as all trios have to be. enjoy this music and enjoy it loud it deserves nothing less

3.0 von 5 Sternen Performance is fine but, song selection is awful. 16. Dezember 2016

The performance of Trower, Dewar & Lordan are fine. The song selection is poor. Why so many versions Too Rolling Stoned and Daydream when the best are already on the 1976 Live album? There's not much on here that you cant get elsewhere. Songs like Only Time, Man Of The World, etc should be on this instead of the same old songs you can find on any number of releases.
