HASH(0x8d97e768) von 5 Sternen Great Australian writer 8. April 2013
Von Sissytook - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
We seem so preoccupied with formulaic novels these days that many people pass over the truly brilliant writers who lead us to this point in literature.

Ruth Park, without as doubt, is one of the great, iconic authors from Australia.

This trilogy is superbly written and a story of true humanity. Not only are the settings fascinating, but the characters are compelling.
Written with such style and class, a true writer who loved her characters and nurtured them through her books, this is a series that I cannot recommend highly enough.

Superb.

Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I'm not a book reviewer, all I can say is that I'm almost finished and I think the trilogy is wonderful and is written in such a way that you feel as though you are watching a movie and the characters become so clear in your mind in every way. So much to love about this book which is a tragic tale in many ways. Its very sad with not many happy events but its fascinating and addictive! Its a long while since I've enjoyed a book so much. The Power of One, read many years ago, had a similar impact on me. I generally find myself reading crime and mystery books and this was definitely a wonderful change. Thank you to the ABC Book Club for bringing The Harp in the South to my attention.
HASH(0x8d97ea98) von 5 Sternen a poor family survive with little money for physical comforts 28. Februar 2016
Von Brian Nolan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This is not a book with a "plot", it recalls a lifestyle of times past. Set in Sydney, a poor family survive with little money for physical comforts. These characters portray vividly how they lived through difficult and deprived circumstances.,Each one is a colourful and well drawn personality, who brings to life the situations and events described. The slums are where these people live and die, living with great strengths, and human weaknesses. Despite the sadnesses, there are pages filled with humour , so times to weep, and times filled with gentle laughter, and inspiration. A description of Australian life, in the 1940s, deftly drawn, and leaving memories that linger.
HASH(0x8d97e990) von 5 Sternen A different perspective of Australia's Irish Immigrant history - from the women who were the backbone of society 4. Januar 2015
Von Katia Barker - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
An epic 3 part story spanning three generations of Irish / Australian immigrant women and the trials and tribulations of their poverty stricken lives. Whilst financial and material wealth is not in abundance, their devotion and commitment to their families, religion, love and homes is inspiring. A step back in time in some of Australia's lesser known history to help the reader gain a glimpse of immigrant back story. Overall a great read!
