Main Street is clearly defined by a geographic and social boundary. South Main Street is where the less fortunate live. North Main is where Henry lives. Although his wife left a considerable fortune, Henry cares little for material things, and gives freely to those he feels need it most. This is one of the.many impulsive actions that frustrate his daughters.
Henry touches many lives as he goes from one caper to the next, and the town is benefited as well.
I didn't think the ending was very plausible because everything got tied up with a fancy bow of happiness, but hey, I enjoy an occasional fairy tale.
In the book the same people that thought Henry was different or unique never changed their opinion on that but they do change their outlook toward him as they all came to realize that Henry had touched them in a way that changed their life for the better.
This book starts with a bang and gets your attention from the very beginning with each chapter drawing you more into the story than the chapter before. I found myself saying over and over again "WOW this is an amazing story". I became very impressed by this book and author and noticed this web-site printed on the back cover [...] that told me more about this book and the authors accomplishments.
I agree with the other reviewers that have read this book. The story is warm, funny, heartfelt, a feel-good book, a lift-your-spirits book, and a well written book. I am very glad I made the decision to read this book and would recommend it to anyone of all ages. "South of Main Street" by Robert Gately is an outstanding book and I plan to buy some copies for friends and people that I know will benefit by reading this book.
