This book is my attempt to address all the variables that create good sleep in children. I have spent my career researching sleep and helping families all over the world with their children’s sleep. No two sleep consults are exactly the same because there are a lot of variables. There is no one-size sleep solution that fits everyone. I advise you to start with the age of your child and meander through other topics as you proceed. The highlighted words are links to other topics and I encourage you to jump around. Along the way, you will learn a huge amount and create your own personalized solutions to enjoy healthy sleep in your household.

Sleep Consult teaches parents how to help their child sleep within the context of the family. It focuses on the step by step process of building healthy sleep habits. Parents who are short on sleep will appreciate the clarity of explanations and instructions. Additional tools are available such as the Weissbluth Method Infant Nap App 90-12 Months), Weissbluth Method Toddler Bedtime App (12-36 Months), and the Six Sleep Problems and Solutions. My books, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, Your Fussy Baby, and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins and blog, Weissbluth Method, contain more information such as why sleep is important for your child and how your child’s temperament impacts on sleep.

Married to his wife, Linda, for 47 years, Marc Weissbluth, MD, has been a pediatrician for more than 39 years. A leading researcher on sleep and children, he founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago in 1982 and is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament, that sleeping problems are related to infant colic, and he coined the now-familiar phrase “sleep training” to describe his method for helping children fall asleep. His findings that changing the time when a child is put to bed dramatically decreases the number of night awakenings were published in the prestigious journal, Sleep, in 1982. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written chapters on sleep problems in textbooks for pediatricians, has lectured extensively to parent groups, and has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. Dr. Weissbluth is the father of four sons and seven grandchildren—and they are all good sleepers. Dr. and Mrs. Weissbluth live in Chicago, Illinois.

His books, Crybabies, Sweet Baby: How to Soothe Your Newborn, Your Fussy Baby, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins have been published is Europe and Asia and taught millions of parents how to help their children sleep well.

Dr. Daniel Weissbluth is a Board Certified pediatrician and completed his residency at Indiana University Riley Children's Hospital. He is an Instructor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Northwestern University School of Medicine. His main area of interest is how various forms of media affect the pediatric population. He co-created the Weissbluth Method Infant Nap App, the Weissbluth Method Toddler Bedtime App, and the Weissbluth Method Parenting Myth App for mobile devices. In addition, he is a regular contributor to the Weissbluth Method Blog. He lives (and sleeps!) in Chicago.

HASH(0xa75d2594) von 5 Sternen More user-friendly version of Weissbluth's sleep wisdom 20. Januar 2014
Von A. Reader - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition
I love Marc Weissbluth's "Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child" -- it is the bible of child sleep, particularly infant sleep. However it is not an easy read -- I have read and re-read it a few times and still am sometimes unsure of what I "should be doing".

"Sleep Consult" contains much of the information found in HSHHC, but in a much more concise and user-friendly format.
Not only is it more clearly laid out and organised, but it contains clearer guidance on "what to do", particularly regarding the early months, whether/when/how to let babies cry to sleep, and the use of "sleep aids" such as swings, pacifiers, swaddles.

People who are new to the Weissbluths' approach may still find this a little difficult, as the above review mentioned, but stick with it! The Weissbluths are far more knowledgable of empirical research on sleep than most sleep book authors, and they also make good use of their extensive clinical experience dealing with parents and babies to offer different advice for different types of babies and varied situations around family, daycare, work, etc.

NB: I actually bought the ibooks edition, but it would probably also be good in Kindle on a tablet. Not sure about on a native Kindle device, as it makes liberal use of hyperlinking, and I find hyperlinks on the non-touchscreen Kindle device are a bit difficult.

HASH(0xa75d25e8) von 5 Sternen Poorly written but you get the idea 22. Januar 2013

This book is poorly written and jumps around a lot, but you get the idea and concepts behind the Weissbluth method. We have applied these concepts with our newborn and they work well. Every baby is different but a structured sleep schedule/pattern really does make a difference.
HASH(0xa75d28c4) von 5 Sternen The ONLY method that worked for our extremely sleep deprived baby. 3. Januar 2016

Marc Weissbluth's method (the pieces of advice he offers in his two books) is THE ONLY method that held my baby sleep. The baby was sleep deprived for 10 months. After 10 months of the extreme sleep deprivation, I gave a try to Marc Weissbluth's method. And miracles happened! The baby started sleeping through the night and taking consistent naps - varying in duration from 35 - 1.5 hours. If anyone has any questions about how we implemented Dr. Weissbluth's method, let us know - we'll be happy to answer them and help out.

Easy read. Great complement to Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. He explains things are little more thoroughly here.
