They're simple shepherds,
living a sparse existence.
Yet upon their obscure village will fall
the greatest wonder of all time . . .
and the most terrifying rampage.

Beth-lehem, six miles from Jerusalem, is comprised of simple folk who spend their days tending sheep, newborn lambs, and their own families. Among them-as guests of Zadok, Rachel, and their three little boys-are Mary, Yosef, and baby Yeshua, whose birth was announced by a miraculous conjunction of the stars and a throng of angels in the sheep fields.

Convinced by their study of the stars and prophecies that the long-awaited Messiah has been born, foreigners travel toward Jerusalem. Surely the capital city of the Jews will hold the answer to the mystery they have sought for months.

Tortured by nightmares that someone is coming to take over his kingdom, King Herod grows more paranoid. He gives an order to his soldiers-one more devastating and evil than anyone could imagine. That very night soldiers and their mounts thunder toward Beth-lehem, the village of the sacrificial lambs. . . .

The Sixth Covenant should be required reading for every pastor, priest and Sunday School teacher before next Christmas! Brock and Bodie have developed a unique balance between Biblical accuracy, living characters who cast real shadows and leave footprints in sand, along with many sparkling perspectives unearthed by their revelations of the first century world, so that we experience these realities more than just read them. What talent! My world slipped back two millennia where the cooing, burping and pooping of Baby Jesus brought a lump to my heart. Mary' s tenacious love is stapled on every page, along with the family support that shows us an incredible person who was chosen to bring "Baby God" into this world. And Daddy Yoesef, whose fierceness and commitment were wrapped up in a humanity that God could use, spilt the tears down my cheeks. These all are couched against an evil that could only be described and other-worldly. Fascinating read. I want MORE...

I'm halfway through this series, A.D. Chronicles, and I've loved all of them. The author does a superb job showing the reader how it was during the days Jesus was on earth, and brings the characters from the Bible, many of whom are nameless, like the blind begger, the shepherds, et al, to life with names and personalities. These are wonderful, insightful reads for Christians and anyone with an interest in the biblically recorded events leading to the birth and life of Messiah. I recommend them highly.

I will never forget this book. The imagery of Jesus' birth in the lambing cave will help me in my prayers when I think about His birth. The description of the sweet people who helped Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem gave a visual that helped complete the story. I also enjoyed the accurate description of the night sky the months leading up to Jesus' birth. The authors' research was very thorough. I loved the idea of the knuckles on our hand helping to teach the children about the ancestry of Jesus. I will reread this book again.

Love the works of this author. Every book is meticulously researched and then brought to life in a way not many authors can do.

I have purchased or plan to purchase almost all of the Thoene's books. I have most of them now and both my husband (who is not normally a reader unless it is Louis Lamour) and I have read all of them in order at least twice. This book is truly up to their standard of writing and we have yet to find a Thoene book we didn't thoroughly enjoy!
