American heavy metal legends SAVATAGE are considered one of the most influential bands of their genre ever. Founded in Florida in 1981 by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, the band met producer Paul ONeill during a joint Europe tour with Motörhead in the mid-1980s - and the rest is history.
Under the wings of the accomplished producer and visionary ONeill, the band soon succeeded in joining the ranks of their role models Rainbow, UFO or Rush and develop their very own sound.

In 2021, earMUSIC pays tribute to the metal icons with a carefully curated vinyl reissue range of all studio albums: from Sirens (1983) to Poets And Madmen (2001), all albums will gradually come back to stores on the finest vinyl. All reissued with extended artwork, detailed liner notes and of course Mastered for Vinyl for high-class audio quality.

The beginning of a whole series of LPs is the re-release of the album Sirens (1983). Celebrated by Rock Hard Germany as a classic of metal history, the debut of Savatage is still an absolute favourite among fans, with songs such as Sirens or Holocaust, which were fixed components of the band's live program.

Unpolished and powerful: Savatage's first album appears as a reissue on 180g black vinyl in an attractive gatefold.

    I should have checked discogs before I bought this. The packaging is great, but the record is unplayable. The needle jumps all over the place and the low end boom is out of control. Obviously mastered by incompetent people with zero quality control.

    Era l'anno 1983, un gruppo di 4 amici americani (di cui 2 anche fratelli, il vocalist Jon ed il chitarrista Chris) faceva uscire, grazie alla Par Records ma quasi in maniera non professionale per non dire poco più che amatoriale (inciso con i pochi mezzi economici a loro disposizione), un album che avrebbe cambiato la storia dell'heavy metal e che avrebbe gettato le basi per una carriera purtroppo non portatrice del successo che la band si sarebbe meritato (anche per vicende poco fortunate, come la morte di Chris Oliva investito da un ubriaco in quel dì funesto 17 ottobre 1993).
    L'album si apre con la mitica title track, una canzone che non può non lasciare il segno in chiunque l'ascolti, la prima vera gemma del disco. A seguire altri due piccoli capolavori, "Holocaust" (incredibile la prova vocale di Jon) e "I Believe", forse l'apice per pathos dell'intero lavoro. "Rage" è una rasoiata, la track più potente del lotto, "On The Run" rallenta appena un po', poi a seguire una improvvisa e sorprendente "Twisted Little Sister", quasi boogie/glam rock nel ritmo. "Living For The Night" è pura energia, come anche "Scream Murder" il cui incedere ricorda le cavalcate dei mitici Iron Maiden. Chiude un disco incredibilmente perfetto per essere, per così dire, un'acerba opera prima, la ballata "Out On The Streets", che si apre con gli arpeggi su chitarra acustica di Chris, si sviluppa intorno alla voce magica di Jon e poi vira versa lidi più power metal, rimanendo sempre "orecchiabile" ed emotivamente affascinante, per poi tornare sulla chitarra acustica, vera protagonista della canzone.

    Se si amano i Savatage, questa ristampa (rimasterizzata) in vinile colorato va acquistata ad occhi chiusi: il disco suona divinamente, nessun rumore di sottofondo, l'artwork di copertina riprende l'originale del 1983, è incluso un libretto di 4 pagine con crediti e testi delle canzoni, la inner sleeve riproduce la copertina dei master "reel to tape" originali.
    Se non si conoscono i Savatage, iniziate a scoprirli da questo disco, il punto da cui tutto è partito.
    Se non si amano i Savatage non si ama la musica.

    Imprescindibile!
