This was by far the best Catherine Coulter book I have read to date. Thankfully, there were no rape sequences which I had begun to think was a Coulter staple. Alexandra was a delight to read. She deserved the title of heroine for simply dealing with all the idiots in her life, her husband included at first in my opinion. She was strong without coming across as a pain. She was funny, intelligent, and courageous.
What annoyed me throughout the book though was the incredible superficiality of so many of the characters. If one more person gushed over Melissande I was going to vomit. There is no human alive who could possibly be so attractive and shallow at the same time. I'm glad Tony brought her around but people's reaction to her irritated me, mostly Douglas'. And I hated how disparaging everyone was to Alex and some of the comments made to her - especially by Douglas - were horrid. They made her sound like a dishrag which she did not appear to be.
All in all, a great book. Even though I think Alex should have made Douglas suffer a little for his earlier treatment of her.
Coulter's best as well as the best of the Brides series.

The start of this book was okay, but after that, the hero just said and thought totally stupid stuff, which made it hard to respect him. In one of the first conversations with the heroine he states: "I am going to beat you." But not as joke, neither does he say it, because he is really angry and almost going to do it. So he just comes across silly. If you cut half of his lines and thoughts, the book would be much better. That the book is mostly written from his perspective makes matters even worse. Not only do we have to put up with his silly thoughts all the time, but we also almost never experience the heroines thoughts, WHEN things happen. (As a result you can't really feel a thing for her.) Only afterwards, in some of her very few View Point scenes, do we get a short overview, sometimes weeks after the event she comments on.
I have tried to like lots of novels by CC, and I did it again, because her plots really have a lot of potential, but after this, I think I will not try again. Three Stars, but only because I was able to at least finish it.

Not exactly earth-shattering literature, but for what it's worth, "The Sherbrooke Bride" was surprisingly entertaining, and had a lot more depth than the badly-conceived "Hellion Bride" (If marital rape makes you swoon, then I highly suggest getting some therapy) and the rather annoying "Mad Jack." The plot *does* have an air of contrivance, but hey, it's a romance novel; who really reads them for the originality of the plot? Douglas as a hero is, well, more three-dimensional than most, and he meshes quite well with Alexandra, who as a heroine is fun and touching at the same time. At times sexy, funny, and (natch) romantic, their relationship was interesting enough that I read the book in one sitting. Oh, and did I mention that the sex is hot? Number one clue that you're reading a Coulter romance... ;-)

Don't get me wrong, usually I like Coulter novels, but I found this story to be harsh and the "hero" unsympathetic. I read the book once years ago and disliked it. I ran across it in the bookshelves and had forgotten the plot. I re-read it. . .and I still found myself concluding that the misogynist hero was unlikeable. I never got the feeling he deserved the heroine and was unsure as to why she ever forgave him for the way he had treated her. If I were choosing a Catherine Coulter novel that I enjoyed reading, I would avoid the entire "Bride" trilogy (which had a tendency to use marital rape as a plot device-- an unfortunate Coulter tendency). My favorite Coulter romance is perhaps "The Nightengale Legacy," and I enjoyed her mystery "The Maze" as well.

The Sherbrook Bride was one of the books that got me addicted to romance novels. All of the characters are wonderful! They become your friends and when you finish the book, you end up missing them, so you'll want to re-read the novel again. Douglas becomes so sweet in the end and in the other bride series. I want someone like him. Alexandra is so sweet and just plain old loveable. They are opposites, but are by far, extremely romantic, admireable and a perfect pair. I love all of Alex's and Sinjun's humorous antics. I thoroughly recommend this novel...I've made all my friends read it and they too love it. DOUGLAS AND ALEXANDRA SHERBROOK FOREVER...

This book is and has remained for four years, my favorite of all. The humor is laugh out loud funny and the more touching moments cause your heart to constrict in your chest! Dougless has a superior but harmless veiw of himslelf that causes him to lord his expertise in all areas of his life. You all but feel sorry for him because his monologs are so ridiculous. You can almost see Alex rolling her eyes. Alex on the other hand is quite sure of herself despite her sisters "throat aching" beauty. All she wants is a chance to prove she can be a good wife. What follows is undeniably the funniest words ever put on paper! I promise YOU WILL ENJOY!
