The Cars ist eine meiner Favoriten der 80er Jahre Musik. Wer die Gruppe früher mochte, wird immer noch von der Musik begeistert sein.

5.0 von 5 Sternen "The good life is just a dream away..." 16. September 2014
Von ADRIENNE MILLER - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verifizierter Kauf
"Shake It Up" by The Cars will leave you stunned and amazed. This was the band's 4th studio album, and they showed no signs of running out of steam artistically. "Shake It Up" is not their best album but it's definitely a favorite of mine. Out of the 9 tracks, there is ONLY one track that sounds a little dated, "I'm Not The One". It's not a bad song by any means but the synth doesn't sound as fresh and innovative all these years later. I like how the opener, "Since You're Gone", is a moody and emotional ballad and not an upbeat track. It also contains one of Ric Ocasek's best vocal performances in my opinion. Things to start to look sunny again on the title track. And "Victim of Love" has got a great, catchy bass line thanks to Benjamin Orr. And then Benjamin takes over lead vocals with the heart-pounding "Cruiser". Normally The Cars' songwriting was pretty straight-forward, but on "Cruiser" and the experimental, "A Dream Away" - the songwriting takes on a unexpected cryptic turn which added a new dimension for the band. Keyboardist Greg Hawkes proved he was really the mastermind in the band on the beautifully dark, "This Could Be Love". The creepy synth that runs throughout the track is unnerving and explosive. "This Could Be Love" is hands-down the BEST track on this album. "Think It Over" is a little juggernaut of sound and multi-layered textures, and the end of "Think It Over" flows seamlessly in to the final track, my personal favorite, "Maybe Baby". If "Maybe Baby" doesn't make you giddy with joy then check your pulse! I don't think people realized how much variety and talent this band from Boston had. "Shake It Up" is just another example of how amazing and fearless they were. They wrote some of the best and beloved songs from the new wave era. They took risks with their music, and it's sad they have never gotten the credit they so rightfully deserved. I highly recommend "Shake It Up" because it's fun and music is all about losing yourself in the moment and forgetting your troubles. Enjoy!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Awesomely Essential Album 6. Februar 2012

Awesomely Essential Album

I just got this album, listened to it and it brought back so many old memories! If you are a Cars fan or a new enthusiast, you must simply comprehend that this album is one of the essential Cars albums to own. There are great songs on this album which are not available elsewhere including in the Greatest Hits, songs such as "Cruiser" which is one of their best songs ever released. This album is one of their hottest albums ever made and I still remember when I first heard of it back in college days. Back then I owned the LP Album but now it is available in much better quality on CD. The whole album Rocks and has an upbeat rocking dance beat to it. The bottom line is that this album along with the first album "Cars" and "Candy O" are their top 3 albums. I have been a Cars fan for decades and as a journalist, I am in contact with them in MySpace. I know their complete history and music. Go for it, Rock On, I guarantee it!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent MOFI Release of My Second Favourite Cars Album! 28. Oktober 2011
Von Frederick Baptist - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verifizierter Kauf
Fans of the Cars are in for a real treat as MOFI has come up with a release worth shouting about! The gold disc has been mastered very well making this the best version of this album that I've ever heard. Although it is not technically a true mini-lp replica sleeve (mlps) because it doesn't faithfully replicate the original vinyl release this gatefold cardboard papersleeve release has been designed and assembled very well indeed. Also included is a glossy, colour 8-page booklet containing all the lyrics.

While this is not the best Cars album and is not quite as good as their debut album content-wise this album is still pretty strong if you consider the period of its release in 1981. Many of the tracks here remind me a bit of Devo, The Human League, Visage and even Ultravox as the Cars try to fit into the New Wave Movement that was in its heyday at the time. As that movement died soon after, some of the tracks here sound a little dated understandably given the death of the genre that they were written for and yet there are many strong tracks that endure such as the great title track, "Since You're Gone", "I'm Not the One" and I even liked "Victim of Love" and "Cruiser" too. As one who grew up during and loved the New Wave Movement I think this album is still a very good representation of that genre showing the Cars' versatility in not being just an out and out punk rock band like their debut album was but that they were willing to experiment with other stylings as well.

Strong content, great sound quality and nice cardboard sleeve packaging makes this the best version of this album on cd that is currently out there. Now if MOFI would just do the same for the debut album that would be a dream come true.

Highly recommended!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Another Good Ride with The Cars 15. März 2010
Von Jim C. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verifizierter Kauf
While not their strongest album, and as some have said "Shake it Up" is almost lost in time, this has some very noticible hits, and some songs that never made the radio, but are worth listening to. Another reviewer commented about the quality of the CD conversion, and at first I thought the reviewer was wrong, but sadly he was correct. This is an album that needs to be remastered, to bring the sound quality up a notch or two. However if you aren't into every nuance of the songs (ie disecting them based on the audio quality) this is an enjoyable album. You'll want to give it a couple listens, as songs like "A Dream Away" are not at first a traditional Cars track, but after a couple listens still is a good song. I purchased this to add to my collection and do not regret it, even with the fact that I'd rather have a remastered version!

Superb remaster by MFSL. The sound is crisp, full of snap and crystal clear. A bit lacking in ultra low bass department but this is true to the original and you can't recover something that was not there in the first place AKA....master tape. This is The Cars at their best and you will find yourself energized and foot tapping especially as the recording progresses to some of the more obscure but never-the-less, excellent tracks. The treble did not come off the least bit harsh or unpleasant as if often the case with older recordings subjected to RIAA equalization. Dynamics are good and the music does not sound compressed or congested. Highly recommended.
