Pressestimmen

"Absolutely gorgeous...an excellent visual memoir." - Project Fandom

"Gottlieb-Walker has an amazing eye and the best compliment I can give to her is that there are at least 10 images in this book I'd buy large prints of if I could." - Aint it Cool

"Whilst On Set with John Carpenter can be appreciated on an aesthetic level, if one so chooses to look a little deeper, then this collection can offer a deeper discussion and appreciation of the still image; it’s relationship to the moving image and the triangular collaborative relationship of artist, subject and audience." - Pop Matters

"You can have your blu-ray box sets; this is the HALLOWEEN collectible of the year."

5.0 von 5 Sternen THE ultimate photographic history and presentation of John Carpenter's classic films by one of our greatest photographers! 22. November 2014
Von Shelley Ward - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
As an old-school collector of movie memorabilia, I have been a fan of Kim Gottlieb-Walker's work since first seeing "Halloween" as a child and recognising the relevance and importance of her publicity stills that graced promotional material for this (and later) John Carpenter classic. Many years later I contacted Kim personally and ever since have delighted in discussing her amazing work and little-known behind-the-scenes stories of these wonderful films. And this is what has been delivered here together in so appealing a package - Kim's timeless, instantly-recognisable photography combined with plentiful tales of production highs and lows from those who were there on all of the films on which she worked with John. It is refreshing to hear from new cast and crew members who have long been overlooked, particularly in retrospectives/documentaries concerning "Halloween"; but not so in Kim's book, which manages to explore each film in detail. The images are of course worth owning this theatrical archive alone; never have so many stills (many never before seen) been presented together in one format for Carpenter's work. This has been a strong labour of love for Kim for many, many years, and what a thrill it has been to watch the progress of this book over time. Kim should feel proud that she has delivered a "Carpenter companion" worthy of any fan not only of this great director, but simply of the films themselves. Readers will delight in the serious and humorous stills (and tales) that make up each chapter, and the book is thoroughly addictive, becoming even perhaps more entertaining with each detailed read. Thank you to Kim for her extraordinary efforts in compiling this photographic history of one of cinema's greats, the result of which also proves that Kim has been one of imagery's greats and will continue to enthral fans and readers across the globe.

5.0 von 5 Sternen ) Kim's fantastic photos are a treat throughout the book 12. November 2015
Von Scott Williamson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Kim Gottlieb-Walker has a masterpiece in "On the Set with John Carpenter"! If you are a John Carpenter fan, or a "Halloween" fan, this book is for you!! Kim was the on-set photographer for many of John Carpenter's films. The book is well-written, with each chapter devoted to one of 5 of Carpenter's films, Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York, Halloween II, and Christine. (Carpenter was director on 4 of the films, Halloween II he produced.) Kim's fantastic photos are a treat throughout the book, as she captures the cast and crew in many amazing photos off camera. My favorite is the chapter on Escape from New York, as many rare photos never seen before are published. Kim thoughtfully dedicates the book to the great Debra Hill, the producer of these films, and a leader in giving many women their first job in the film industry.

5.0 von 5 Sternen As a collector of "Halloween" memorabilia, Kim Gottlieb-Walker's book is one of the greatest items I have ever seen!!! 13. November 2015
Von James M. Patton - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

As a collector of memorabilia from the "Halloween" film series, Kim Gottlieb-Walker's book is one of the greatest collections of Halloween and John Carpenter history that I have ever seen.

The behind the scenes shots of so many of Carpenter's films and the first hand accounts provided by Gottlieb-Walker and friends is a gift to those of us that thought we had it all and had seen it all.

This is the book Jamie Lee Curtis gives out autographed copies of. This is the book that captures years of great collaborations of the likes of Dean Cundey, Tommy Lee Wallace, Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, and many more, while giving those of us that know these films so well a whole new perspective on them.

I cannot stress enough that if you or a loved one are a fan of John Carpenter's films and the people he has worked with over the years, this is a fantastic gift.

Thank you Kim Gottlieb-Walker for your years of hard work and wonderful imagery!!! Jim Patton

5.0 von 5 Sternen this book is a wonderful time capsule that covers an exciting and nostalgic period ... 21. November 2014
Von Brandon - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

As someone else mentioned, this book is a wonderful time capsule that covers an exciting and nostalgic period of great filmmaking. John Carpenter and Debra Hill created some truly great films that firmly established both of them as creative forces in the industry who could take a low budget and do something magical with it. Even films that may not have made a ton of money at the time, are now considered classics of their genre thanks to Carpenter's direction. There seemed to be an innocence during that period of filmmaking (late 70's-mid 80's) as many involved have pointed out, John's sets were more of an intimate family setting as opposed to a large corporate and pressure packed set. Kim Gottlieb-Walker took amazing photographs on set during this time which captures the spirit of what things were like behind the scenes. The book is a great price with tons of wonderful pictures that will no doubt take the reader instantly back in time. The book is also a lovely tribute to producer Debra Hill who is featured in the book on many pages, (Ms. Hill passed away in 2005) she was a pioneer in the industry and helped paved the way for many successful female producers. I would strongly recommend this book!

As a lifelong John Carpenter fan, I can't express what a treat this book is. It is nothing short of a masterpiece. Kim Gottlieb-Walker's photos are pure magic and take you inside of these films that she worked on with Carpenter, giving you a first-hand account experience. There are classic photos in here that enthusiasts will be familiar with but PLENTY of never seen before gems. Along with these tremendous portraits and behind the scenes time capsules in the form of pictures there is a whole lot of background story and descriptions. This is the total package and an absolute must-have for fans of John Carpenter, horror in general or anybody who would enjoy a well rounded photo/cinema experience. I can't recommend this book highly enough. I was thrilled to hear Kim was releasing this and the outcome was beyond my expectations.
