When the land developer Richard Bergman buys the property next to the Bishop’s compound, he gets involuntarily drawn into the sect’s secret …

We've all heard about polygamy, but if it isn't happening to us, most of us don't give it a second thought. Helga Zeiner makes us think about the plight of the women and children who are caught up in these polygamous communities. Her novel is well researched and the story is told in a way that shocks us with its honesty and keeps us turning pages to find a resolution to the dilemmas of the main characters. We get to know Lillian, the poor girl who is barely a teenager and is already expected to be "wife" to a man whose being is repugnant to us in both body and mind. We hope desperately that she will escape this horrible situation.
Richard, the realtor who buys the land adjacent to the commune, has problems of his own, yet we come to care about him. The author weaves the tale skilfully to resolve the realtor's character flaws as they pertain to his relationship with his female business partner, while bringing the story of Lillian's hoped for escape to a climax.
"Section 132" will keep you on the edge of your seat, turning pages as quickly as you can read.

HASH(0x9504bfcc) von 5 Sternen A FABULOUS READ!! 20. Juli 2012
Von Lori Caswell/Dollycas - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Lillian grew up in a American Fundamentalist Mormon sect where polygamy is still practiced. When she turned 13 she is said to be a woman and is sent to be the child bride of a Bishop in Canada. The compound is located in the wilderness of British Columbia. There are no neighbors for miles. Lillian is scared of her new "husband" and his first wife. Her sister-wife and the wife recognized by law.

A land developer has decided to purchase the land next to the compound for a ritzy new subdivision. He knows absolutely nothing about the compound next to his idyllic property. When he needs to tell the Bishop about his proposed project he learns the sect's secret. Can he just stay out of their business or does he need to investigate further and protect the children he has seen at the compound? He has some difficult choices to make that could effect so many in Canada but the United States as well.

WOW! What a suspenseful story!! A fabulous read!!

Zeiner has taken her research and constructed a well written novel that will have you sitting straight up in your chair rapidly turning the pages.

One of my former employers is a Mormon, not of a sect the practices polygamy. The staff were members of several religions and unlike most places of work back then we discussed religion openly. Different views were shared and we all learned much of different theology. There were Catholics, Methodists, Seven Day Adventists, and Lutherans. When the company was purchased by a man of Mormon faith from Salt Lake City we were all anxious to learn about the religion. Some of us even were fortunate enough to travel to Salt Lake City and see the temple and learn about Joseph Smith and his teachings. I was familiar with several beliefs shared in this story. Most people today may have watched Big Love on HBO for their knowledge on this Mormon practice.

There have also been several non-fiction accounts by women who have escaped from this horrible practice. It is easier to read this story because we known that while based on fact it is still fiction. It may make you furious in parts, tug at your heartstrings in other places, it may even make you laugh here and there. You will be amazed by the strength of some of the characters. The things these children go through was horrific, but the author was not preachy in her telling of this story. The reader is able to reach their own conclusions.

I believe this is the first title by this author written in English. I hope she writes many more. This book receives my highest recommendation.

HASH(0x950573c0) von 5 Sternen Great Characters 6. August 2012
Von Rachel Tsoumbakos - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I found this book really hard to review! Only only gave it 3 stars, but there are parts of this book (like the first half) that are so tremendous, that I would recommend people read the book even if the end is a bit of a let down.

The characters in this novel are fantastic. I didn't like all of them, some I downright despised, but the descriptives were fantastic. Each character was completely believable and each action they performed felt true to their own identities. I LOVED reading about the women in the polygamist family. While I have read many books on escapees from polygamy, it was nice to read of characters that had some good things to say about the practise, without them preaching the path - even in the midst of their horrific existence.

However, I found the end of this book a little too unbelievable, while the characters remained true in the first half of the book, towards the end, everything was tied up just a little too neatly. I really don't think that these women would have reacted the way they did being in the environment they were born into. (I'm finding it hard to say much on this without causing a SPOILER ALERT).

Even with me not liking the end of the book, I would still recommend this book to read though, if only for the start and middle since the characters are truly what make this book.

HASH(0x950548a0) von 5 Sternen Section 132 5. Oktober 2011
Von S Dirkin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
It's scandalous that abuse on this scale is allowed to continue in this day and age, and while it is predominantly violence and subjugation of women, it is also about control and victimisation of children. This book shines a light on stark reality ... I only hope the authorities put women and children ahead of the political agenda and give them their lives back ... and save many more from a desolate future. Read this book and see if you can remain unmoved on the sidelines.

HASH(0x95054594) von 5 Sternen Should be a 10 star for this book. 14. September 2012
Von Marjorie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Horrors,
Image you are 13 years of age and have just become a woman. You live in the States and are sold by your family to a bishop in central British Columbia to be his wife and bear children, all in the name of the Lord.
A land developer, Richard, purchases a huge parcel of land for developing into a resort in the interior of British Columbia. Needing more land than he thought for roads, he has to deal with this selfish bishop. He got more than he bargained for.
The bishop has many wives. The first wife rules, of course, she no recourse, but to obey her husband. She gives heavy chores to the other wives under his direction. She has no choice. Even sending them to the local dump to salvage scrapes of fabric for quilts to make and sell.
Turmoil, hardship and pain envelope this small community of women.
Having lived in British Columbia I was able to follow Richard from Vancouver to Hope, to Merritt, to Kamloops to the interior of B.C., and it just brought the book to life for me.
This book is a must read and I highly recommend it.
A veryy powerful, unforgettable story you will not forget.

This novel deserves five stars! The author has combined impressive research with a compelling storyline and managed to write a fast paced novel about a controversial topic that is impossible to put down. I am looking forward to Ms Zeiners next offering.
