Once there was balance, once Ephemera was whole.
Ephemera, ever changing landscape attuned to the hearts of man and demon kind alike was torn asunder in the desperate attempt to contain the Eater of the World - an entity so vile that even the Darkness that bore it was wary.
But time has passed and history was forgotten until it faded even from the memories of the guardians. Their lore forgotten, their blood diluted Landscapers and Bridges do their best to keep the worlds of Ephemera steady, creating habitats for those who live in the light and those who prefer the darkness.
Now the time has come that the Eater of the World has gained a new foothold in the lands of Ephemera and his revenge will be terrifying and all-encompassing.

At thirty Sebastian has become tired of his decadent lifestyle, nightly prowls and cheap and easy sex with rapidly changing partners. Such a thing is known to happen now and then - but definitely not to a half incubus living in the Den of Iniquity - the Las Vegas of Ephemera - a place of nightly pleasures and bad ass boys. He is feared among his peers, not because of his demonic side, but for his human relatives - or, to be more exact, because of Glorianna Belladonna, strongest landscaper since the old days and rogue.

Together they stand a chance of defeating the Eater of the World, but only if Sebastian finds peace of heart and mind, for in Ephemera what you carry in your heart will become part of the landscape - and your future.

SEBASTIAN is great fun. It's dark, erotic, filled with humour and naughtiness - everything you need to enjoy yourself vastly.
Even though Bishop uses many concepts and bits of personalities from her older novels (Sebastian /Daemon, darkly erotic feel, French names, guardians forgetting their tasks, worlds connecting through bridges, darkness isn't automatically badness, etc.) unique features for me not to mind.
Bishop fans will be delighted, but for newbies I'd recommend the Dark Jewels Trilogy, which is still unbeaten. Have a nice read!

Good news! In June 2007 Heyne is going to publish the German translation, which is also titled SEBASTIAN (Die dunklen Welten 01).

SEBASTIAN is great fun. It's dark, erotic, filled with humour and naughtiness - everything you need to enjoy yourself immensely.
Even though Bishop uses many bits and pieces from her older novels ( Sebastian is a flat version of Daemon Sadi and Lynnea, Sebastian's love interest a sweeter version of Ari), there're enough unique features for me not to mind . The everchanging world is highly original and quite difficult to grasp, because the explanation of the various guides, guardians, bridges, landscapers etc. is unclear and spread over the whole novel. Therefore I can only recommend to read it at least twice.

The closing part of the dilogy, BELLADONNA will hit the shelves in March 2007. And in June 2007 Heyne will publish the German translation of SEBASTIAN, which is also titled SEBASTIAN (Die dunklen Welten 01).

I really would like to know how Anne Bishop comes up with these new, fascinating worlds. I just can't get enough of her books. I wish I could crawl into one of her worlds and explore it, see it all for myself.

Sebastian is a nice character that I liked to read about. I also loved the way how each single person in her book felt "real". That so seldomly happens in today's mass production novels.

Of course this is not an easy book. I laughed with it, felt triumpf when success was achieved but also felt sad when the plot turned to some darker happenings. All in all, it was more than worth it!!!

A perfect read. A unique world, in which your hearts desire chooses where you live and how the world changes. A completely new type of world with interesting characters. Packed with intrigue, romance and magic and perfect evil. I just couldn't stop reading it and after three days I had read both, Sebastian and Belladonna. You defenitely have to have both books! This is one of the few books I've read more then once a year! I recommend it full heartedly.
