Mackenzie fights to forget the life she left behind, but she can’t hide from the memory of the one man who forced her to run.

When Mackenzie leaves New York City and returns home, she expects the small-town life will offer her a fresh start and a new career as a local reporter and financial adviser for the tiny area newspaper. But Mayville is nothing like the big apple, where she can hide from her past within a city of millions.

Going home means facing the man who crushed her dreams and broke her heart all those years ago.

Thane left home in a whirlwind to heal from Mackenzie's betrayal, but a tragic accident has him right back in Mayville. Mackenzie stumbles back into his life, and Thane is determined to make her his once and for all.

But to convince Mackenzie to stay, Thane must confront the scars of his past.

*******Review Filled With Spoilers******

I tried so hard to like this book but it fought me at every turn! Several things bothered me about it.
Thane and M were so hot and cold. One minute M says Thane is no good for her, the next she says "take me to bed".
M is always saying he broke her heart but she is the one who left!
Thane won't let M even talk to another man but when she says something about all his previous women, his excuse is "I'm a man not saint. I had to do something to take my mind off you". I'm all for alpha males but him throwing her over his shoulder got pretty old. And his always saying "You're mine" Ugh! Did he say he loves her or wants to marry her? No. He just wants to keep her.
Grammar and punctutation errors galore!
Timeline: M has been gone five years. She leaves to go to NY to get a job. She has a college degree. Did she stay home to get this degree? She's just out of high school when she leaves Thane and has been working five years in NY. Confusing!
At one point she says her Nana is 56, at another point she is mid-sixties.
They live in Mayville, NY. I've been to Mayville several times. It is a lake community where tourists and vacationers go. The author has written about it having one bar and being a farm town. This not the case. Yes, Mayville has farms but it has several eating and drinking establishments. One or two of them very upscale!
Nana had to go to Buffalo for a diagnosis but her treatments are at a local hospital?
At one point in the book Thane says "I killed my babies". WTH? His babies? They weren't HIS and they SURVIVED!
M's dad doesn't know she's alive? This is a small community where everbody knows everything about them and she was the Valedictorian of her class. He didn't recognize the name he and Callie picked out?
Ok last thing...
The title says Western Romance. Western? Yes! Western New York! All because you live in a farming community and raise sheep, doesn't make it a western!
With a little more research and a good proof reader, this would have been an ok book. Good thing it was free. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

HASH(0x8ea14b94) von 5 Sternen Not bad..but needed multi pov I think 23. August 2014
Von Sassy Beta Reading & Review - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This was good for a free download. I read the prequel first and really liked it and then immediately read Scarred. The Thane in the prequel seemed different from the Thane in the story. I don't know if the prequel was written first or as an afterthought to book 1. I'm not sure if reading the prequel helped or hurt to be honest. With the differences in Thanes character it almost made it confusing. I liked having the back ground of Thane, but having the prequel in his POV made me hungry for more of his pov in the main book.

This book would have been so much better if it had been multi pov. There were so many times through out this book I wanted to hear Thanes thoughts and feelings. This was lacking in that respect. I am a multi pov enthusiast and find most books without it, lacking.

There were also continuity errors and missing words that the content editor in me cringed over. I would loved to have gotten my hands on this before it was published to polish it up.

All in all, I liked it. This was about second chances. It did give me a few Aaaawwww moments but no heart twinges. This was a really short read, only took me maybe 3 hours or so (including the prequel). One thing that kept popping up that I found odd, during the romance/sex scenes, kept repeating "ghost touch" There are so many other things that could have been used in place of that. But I guess that is just me nit picking. Who knows.

So anyway.......

Would I recommend this book? Yes

Would I read more from this author? Yes I think so.

HASH(0x8fd299c0) von 5 Sternen The perfect curvy heroine 18. August 2014
Von RJF - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Mackenzie is the perfect curvy heroine. Sweet, independent, and just a little too stubborn for her own good. She reminds me a lot of a real woman, and to me there is nothing better than that. I could not wait to see how she resolved her situation.

Thane is just as independent, his Alpha cowboy complex making him frustrating at times, but in a way that just makes you want to shake him, and show him what is right in front of his face.

I am glad to see a plus size writer who takes the task seriously. Mackenzie isn't just a trope, a fat girl who wallows in self pity and self doubting. She is a realistic woman, one with motivation, agency and drive.

Their romance is realistic, but steamy, making for a compelling story that had me reading the “good parts” more than once.

I love reading about strong curvy women, and this book knocks it out of the park! Action, drama, and steamy sex that blend beautifully! Kaylee Song has an amazing voice, and I highly recommend Scarred!

HASH(0x8e372690) von 5 Sternen I need more! 20. August 2014
Von Awesome Reviews - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Scarred is a sweet, but at times dark and steamy. Emotional issues abound in this one. With that being said, I have to say, I LOVED reading it. Plus sized women are all too often ignored, and I must say that it was refreshing to read a book that tackled real life issues while still saying sexy.

Mack just wants to go home and heal from a really traumatic experience in the city, but she has a lot of baggage back home, and one of those is the taciturn Thane.

He's scarred, both from the way she left him, and from an accident. Leading to an emotional roller coaster that I honestly, could not put down.

Because everything was so realistic, I felt compelled by the book, rooting for the characters, while at the same time, hoping the very best for them. Even the side characters. Mack's grandmother is great, honestly, and I only wish I knew a little bit more about her story. I hope this isn't the last in the Scarred series, because I want so much more.
