HASH(0x8ee8b3d8) von 5 Sternen Fantastic set of books! Must Read! 14. Januar 2014
Von The Ardent Reader - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I loved this set! It was well thought out. Each book brings you a new author with her own way of writing. Descriptive is the best word I can think of, each of these authors have excellent descriptive skills. But none of them over do it, which I have seen and read monotonously. The stories are fresh and entertaining. I will admit that I had to stop after Salt Bride and go read Salt Redux (The second book in that set) to see what happened. But then I went back and read Scandalous Virtue. I'll do my best not to put spoilers. It's hard to review a great set of books without gushing about the parts you really loved! LOL

UNFORGETTABLE ROGUE: This story caught me right away, the hero was someone I would have liked to have met and the heroin was someone I thought would be a great friend. Both flawed but so perfect for each other. Excellent!! The cast of characters was a very well thought out cast. Everyone has their part to play in this story and the writing made them all seem like people you would like to have known.

A LADY BY CHANCE: I really enjoyed the way these characters interacted with each other. They seem to be fighting every basic instinct so that they don't have to admit that a marriage of convenience could be more. Excellent writing again, descriptive but not overly so, well thought out and flowing.

SALT BRIDE: This story was fantastic! The plot twists and the characters came together in a wonderful way and made want to read more. I had to know how it all turned out. I knew there would be happiness, but how would it all come about. Great characters!! And as I said, I had to stop here and get Salt Redux, and it was fantastic as well!

SCANDALOUS VIRTUE: The characters in this story were very easy to imagine. I loved Nessa, she was perfect all together! The interactions with her rake were really well written. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the settings. Very well done!

All in all, I would definitely recommend this set to anyone who loves good characters, great writing, and a few plot twists. I will admit that these 4 ladies are among my favorite authors so it was not hard to read any of their books! They all share the common love of the genre and it shows through in their work. Each one a different perspective, but still of the same period. Each one weaves a story for you to tuck into like a good ragout. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

I was happy to receive an advanced reader copy of this set.

HASH(0x8ee8b42c) von 5 Sternen Great Way To Try Out Some Authors 13. Januar 2014
Von Lovemuffins - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Wow... this is an interesting collection. There are pretty angsty books in the middle, with broken alpha males, some crazy villains, and lots of hard-hitting emotional stuff. If you're in the mood for complexity and a heavier focus on the crazy schemes of villains who want to keep two lovers apart, then those will fulfill that. They're bookended but much lighter books (Thank goodness, because after the angst of the middle two, I desperately needed something cheerier and less emotionally heavy!) that are both really well done and pretty entertaining. If you're looking to get to know some of these authors, this is a GREAT collection at a GREAT price, figure out what kind of writing most appeals to you and look up the rest of their works!

1. Unforgettable Rogue - 4 stars - I really liked this book.

Alex was wonderfully strong, not to mention incredibly easy to relate to. Bryce, on the other hand, made me want to kick him on a regular basis for being a bonedheaded idiot. I know the story line needed the misinterpretations of each other's words/actions, but he was almost deliberately obtuse at times, more so than he needed to be. It was extremely frustrating and eventually verged on annoying. What made it bearable was the fact that he'd obviously been emotionally abused by his father and then his insecurities and issues had been made worse by the war and his injuries.

Fortunately, Bryce's thickheadedness is eventually of less importance than the events swirling around the characters. There's more than just Alex and Bryce's story, there's also what's going on with her almost-husband (before Bryce revealed at the wedding that he wasn't dead), Bryce's niece Claudia who is a complete minx (and utterly delightful), and the rest of Bryce's family. There's humor, heartache and machinations aplenty!

2. A Lady By Chance - 3 stars - Too much unnecessary drama

I got a bit annoyed by this particular book. Maybe my patience was already low from all the misunderstandings in Unforgettable Rogue, but I found the constant miscommunication and secrets in this book even more irksome. Mostly because a lot of them seemed completely unnecessary and I was already tired of that.

And I didn't like Anna or Haverstock as much as I like Alex and Bryce. Haverstock in particular is just such a jerk sometimes. And Anna occasionally behaves with remarkable stupidity, although that's fairly understandable because she's trusting people whom she believes to be trustworthy, but it's still annoying. I think I just wanted her to be more clever than that. Wow. I'm only harping on the things I didn't like. But there was plenty TO like, there really was - good writing, great flow, and you're happy when the characters finally get their HEA, it just seems to take awhile to get there.

3. Salt Bride - 3 stars - GOODNESS

Wow... if I thought there was crazy drama in the previous two books... Jane and Lord Salt are forced to marry and the situation is exceedingly complex. Not only that, but it's even more complicated than either of them realize. There's a wicked villainess in the form of Lady St. John, and some wonderful side characters in the form of Sir Anthony and Jane's brother Tom.

Lady St. Salt was almost too crazily bad to be believed, Lord Salt almost too obtuse to be attractive, and Jane too weak/passive/good to be tolerated. On the other hand, the writing was SO good that I got caught up in the story anyway, even though it was almost too angsty to be enjoyable. I ended up deciding against getting the next book, Salt Redux, partly because I'm perfectly happy with the way this one ended and partly because I just don't think I can handle it at this point. I'm sick of Lady St. John and I don't want to read about her anymore. I like that Jane and Lord Salt got their HEA at the end of this book, and I don't need to read Salt Redux to find out what happens with the other characters, since it's also just going to bring back more drama into their lives.

4. Scandalous Virtue - 5 stars

Brenda Hiatt is one of my favorite authors so I'd already read this one, but it's a great way to end this little collection. Unlike some of the previous brides, Nessa really IS a bit scandalous and she's also fabulous. Her parents were super into propriety, so was her (late) husband, and so is her sister... even though she's now living with her sister, Lady Creamcroft, she's determined to grab life by the short hairs and really LIVE. After the angst of the middle two books, this is MUCH more light-hearted, although just as complex. No villains here, just a hero and a heroine at cross purposes who find themselves incredibly attracted to each other.

Nessa wants some adventure and romance and never to marry again, Jack NEEDS a respectable wife and to turn over a new leaf, and watching the sparks fly is just fantastic.

And because the entire collection was only 99 cents, it didn't bother me that I'd already bought one of the books before. It was fun to read some new authors, even if they were a little heavy for me,

HASH(0x8ee8b708) von 5 Sternen Great deal and most interesting read 25. Februar 2014

These books were so good. I enjoyed each one so much. A "Lady By Chance" was my favorite most likely because Cheryl Bolen is my favorite author (and I have read all of her books but one) but the others were just as good. After reading "Salt Bride" I did purchase the sequel to it and I am enjoying it very much. Each one kept me entertained and not wanting to put it down. I am not sure now the price of these four books but if the price had been twice as much it would still have been worth it.

HASH(0x8ee8b600) von 5 Sternen Scandalous Brides Series 27. Januar 2014
Von Patrice - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I ordered this set back in October and couldn't wait for it to be released. Four great reads by four great authors and I was not disappointed. I didn't read Unforgettable Rogue as I had read it in the past, as well as the other three rogues Ms. Blair wrote about. You need to read them all!
Already a fan of Cheryl Bolen I was waiting to read Lady by Chance and I was thrilled at her writing. i will be starting on the brides of bath series very shortly. I had been waiting to read Salt Bride and let me tell you what a book that is. I couldn't put it down, the characters are endearing and the villain in this book sets you on edge. I went and purchased the sequel to Salt Bride, Salt Redux and I am so happy I did. I wanted to continue with the characters so they would be fresh in my mind. I loved both books.
Scandalous virtue was very well written, the hero and heroine captivate you. I will be reading more of Brenda Hiatt. I recommend this set highly, you won't be disappointed all four are penned by great authors and make me want for more.

HASH(0x8ee8b7ec) von 5 Sternen Salt Bride is a good enough reason to buy the whole set! 3. Dezember 2014
Von Lynda P - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
In the interest of full disclosure, I have only read the first 3 books in the 4-book set. The first two were fine...worth reading, but not what I'd call compelling. Let's face it though, the price was nice. On the other hand, the third book, entitled "Salt Bride," was so compelling and so downright disturbing that I just had to write a review at once! I don't write many reviews, but I have just finished the book and I am so emotionally spent that I'm just sitting here shaking my head and I need to talk about it.

It's too soon for me to give a synopsis, I wouldn't even know how to give a concise description of what all went on. Let me just say that Ms. Brant has written a thoroughly riveting book. It is very well done, with characters that jump off the page (even minor characters are carefully developed), and a plot with twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat...or at the very least, screaming at your Kindle (I swear I couldn't help it). The disinformation, the misunderstandings, the misplaced blame, all combine to frustrate the reader beyond anything. And the element of pure evil, in the person of Lady Diana St. John, will have you shaking in your boots. However, you know there will be a HEA, and that the Earl of Salt Hendon and his Lady Jane, will eventually find it. It's all you'll have to hold on to at times. In retrospect, there was just exactly the right amount of angst and, all in all, Salt Bride was an exhilarating and satisfying read.

Oh but wait.... the story isn't finished. There's the little matter of "Salt Redux," the sequel to "Salt Bride." Now that's upsetting. I'm not ready to embark on part two of this saga, for I am quite certain (having had a sneak peek at the prologue) that the tale of terror has not reached a conclusion. I was dead set against buying the sequel, and resisted it for all of 15 minutes. Why do I do these things to myself? Ugh, book 4 of the Scandalous Brides will have to wait.
