Kurzbeschreibung

This book is for parents who are experiencing the wonders and challenges of raising young children.

There may be some days when you want to get away from it all. If you cannot identify with this sentiment, then this book may not be for you.

The Runaway Mommy imagines what life would be like if she ran away. The mommy learns flamenco dancing in Barcelona, joins a tech startup in San Francisco and hits the campaign trail interning for a presidential candidate. All the while, her little one follows with a captivating eagerness that ultimately brings the mommy back right where she belongs.

Wonderfully illustrated book about the inseparable bonds between parent and child written in fashion to Margaret Wise Brown's, Runaway Bunny, a childhood favorite. A must have for any parent struggling to find balance with their own dreams, the demands of parenthood and the love of a child.
-- Amazon Reviewer

“This is perhaps one of those rarest books, a children’s book that can equally be enjoyed by parents… It is a very heartwarming story that would make you want to come back to over and over again.”
-- Dr. Bojan Tunguz, Amazon Top 50 Reviewer

“... a lovely children’s book (or maybe parents’ book?)... The illustrations by Scott Rim are charming, and anyone who’s in the midst of the heaven and the hell of parenthood will be able to relate. Jane’s story reminds parents of what they had to give up, but also argues that it was worth it.”
-- Gene Yang, Author and winner of the American Library Association’s Printz Award

As any parent will tell you, kids are a great source of fulfillment and joy. They also make almost constant demands on your time and attention, especially when they are really young. They make you put many of your personal aspirations and career goals on hold, and put breaks on your professional life. (I am trying to squeeze in writing of this review between a breakfast with my family and the time when I’ll have to take care of our toddler this afternoon.) In the end, the joy and fulfillment we get from our kids far outweigh all of the daily frustrations, but the more honest parents would admit that there were many moments when they wish they could just run away from it all.

“The Runaway Mommy” is a sweet and endearing look at the dreams of escape by one overworked mommy. She dreams of running away from her little bunny to San Francisco, Barcelona, New York, and several other places and activities. Her little bunny, however, finds a way to follow her into all of her daydreams and manages to interfere with her carefully laid plans. In the end, mommy realizes that those “infringements” are perhaps the most meaningful parts of her daydreaming experiences, and comes to relish and enjoy adventuring around the world with her little bunny. It is a very heartwarming story that would make you want to come back to over and over again.

A big part of the charm of this book lays in its illustrations. By turning mommy and her boy into anthropomorphic bunnies, the story takes away some of the possible harshness of the idea of a mother who wants to run away from her child. The illustrations are clear, crisp and very charming. They greatly add to the overall story, and in particular enhance its comic and amusing elements.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Clever! 2. Februar 2014

I was absolutely charmed by "The Runaway Mommy," and I found the storyline and pictures extremely clever. Even though I am not a parent, there were several occasions when I laughed aloud, especially when the mother threatens to become a business consultant. (The pictures for this segment were especially cute!)

I HIGHLY recommend this book; it's sharp, sweet, and well-written. I think the subject matter will resonate with parents of all ages and stages.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great children's book 9. Januar 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Well illustrated and written short story. Attempted to read it to my children (2 year old twins) but they are not yet able to understand the concept of Mommy running away to be a presidential candidate (smile). This is a fun book for parents who want to run away instead of the bunny running away. I thouroughly enjoyed reading this book and encourage others to read it as well.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun and enjoyable! 31. Dezember 2013

This is a beautifully written and illustrated "children's" book for adults. Each page is funny, concise, and has cute characters - and the details are a nice touch. It is a fast and easy read, but you will want to keep it around for whenever things get stressful and you want to escape from it all. It's a great coffee table book or conversation starter as well.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Cute story for mommies 13. Mai 2015
Von Mrs. Chaudhury - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Cute story. My kids love the Runaway Bunny and I got it for free on my Kindle for myself as a laugh. One day, my 5 year old came across it on the Kindle Fire and asked me to read it to him. To my surprise, he thinks this book is hilarious, especially the part where the little bunny drinks grape juice on the white couch. He appreciates that mommies get stressed and need a break sometimes, just like he does, but that no one is actually going to run away. As he says, families are forever.
