3.0 von 5 Sternen not as complete as I hoped 6. Januar 2013

I had hoped this book would go into much more depth on who played what with the Stones but the book itself is woefully incomplete.

didn't show which musician played on each song like i thought it would, just loose reference about the songs and not that organized.

I am a fan of Martin Elliot's past editions of this book. This book has everything! Although the book says "Complete recording sessions - every song the RS played - in concert, TV, warm up released on Vinyl, CD and even bootleg is mentioned here!Everything known is reported here - the date(s) or approximate, studios session players, availability -single album (including compilation). There is information here the many other RS books dont even include. Each song is numbered then listed in the index , when there is a considerable gap of not recording -the author brings us up to date about the stones activities -whether it be tour, vacation, members filming a movie, band lineup changes etc. I remember when this book wasnt even release - I counted the days! I obtained a copy and meticulously read/retainedreread, highlighted attached postits. This book is a fans ()and especially a writers DREAM! Lots of interesting facts are included throughout the book - I just couldn't stop reading it - but the book is huge! It will take a while.( Mr Elliot I have one addition for you - John Regan played bass on "Winning Ugly" He is also the bass player on Dancing in the Street". I tried emailing you and Cherry Red Books - no luck....Anothere thing readers - ya won't find any mistakes in this book - Martin Elliot is THE MAN! tHANK YOU.

I had hoped this book would be the equal of Lewisohn's book on the Beatles recording sessions. This book is not that. It has a "self-published" feel to it, with a small, unattractive font and few pictures from the sessions mentioned. As a serious Rolling Stones fan, I'm not unhappy I bought it. But "Rolling with the Stones," by Bill Wyman, is much, much better, and the "Rolling Stones Gear" book is surprisingly wonderful, filled with great photos and many anecdotes.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Catnip for Stones Fans! 28. April 2013
Von Mike O'Connor - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Over the past 50 years, the Rolling Stones have crafted some of the most memorable rock 'n' roll music of all time. Martin Elliott's THE ROLLING STONES COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS 1962-2012, 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION is the authoritative, perceptive and sometimes witty guide to that musical legacy.

Within the book's 455 oversized pages, Elliott details 1,000+ Stones' tracks. The first, dating from January-March 1962, was 'Around and Around.' The last, from April 2011, is 'Watching the River Flow.' For each song, Elliott provides composer, length, play dates/sites, personnel including sidemen, title of the album(s) the song appeared on, sometimes detailed summaries of the song's creation/evolution/etc. and so on.

Though the track-by-track format takes a little getting used to, Elliott's book proved to be an enjoyable goldmine of information on Stones' recordings and group dynamics. Recommended.
