Most all the guitars heroes are here--Clapton, Richards, Page, Raitt, and 104 others--or rather, their fave axes are. The real star is the imagery: Johnson lovingly captures the bends, curves, worn frets and wild designs on these custom guitars against black seamless. --American Photo Magazine; November/December 2013 -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Gebundene Ausgabe.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

LISA S. JOHNSON grew up in an artistic family, where she fell in love with melody and imagery and pursued a career in photography. After a successful ten-year stint working at Eastman Kodak Co., she met the owner of a vintage guitar shop in Memphis and began to exclusively photograph guitars. LES PAUL (1915-2009) was a guitar player, inventor, and recording artist. He was an innovator his entire career. In 1941, he built his first solid-body electric, helping to shepherd into existence rock music as we know it today. A pioneer whose name graces some of the most beloved six-strings ever manufactured.

If you love guitars, if you love music, if you love rock stars, then you must own this book, it is wonderfully and richly illustrated and even there are "only" 108 guitars featured, just a pleasure for the eyes and your memory is playing the tunes.

After 10 minutes I thumbed through the book the cover came off and the binding is loose. The photos are beautiful, but the binding is not worth anything in this Hal Leonard reprint.

HASH(0x9948009c) von 5 Sternen 108 Rock Star Guitars Deluxe by Lisa S. Johnson, Les Paul 11. Dezember 2013
Von Paul Bunn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Three out of five stars only because a very expensive book was poorly assembled.
The photographs in this book are stunningly beautiful. They are well composed and highlight exactly what bond has formed between musician and instrument. If you delight in just the beauty and originality of these guitars, you will not be disappointed. The icing on the cake is the stories behind them.
The only weak point was in the manufacture of the book itself. For a $400 Deluxe Edition book, it was poorly assembled. Half of the pages of the book were stuck together at the edges. Upon finally getting the pages apart, the color had lifted off of the page edges. And to make matters worse, the publisher refused to make an even exchange of the damaged book. I had to jump through hoops of returning the book to the seller. Then the publisher would sell me a replacement book. Terrible for Glitteratti Press.

I received this book as a gift from a friend. When i received the 10lb book in the mail, I was amazed to see this up close and personal. The leather bound cover makes this the quintessential coffee table book and a perfect gift for Christmas! I ended up purchasing 2 of these for friends of mine as they are big photography fans. The book goes into fine detail and photos of guitars and the authors recollection of how she photographed some of these guitars is a wonderful angle to showcasing these photos. Each page is done with high fine print and very classy. So glad to have received this book! Words cannot describe the beauty that lies within this wonderful collection of photographs from Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and many many others!

HASH(0x993c12d0) von 5 Sternen The details are where it's at. 5. November 2013
Von Rick Lawrence - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
What an incredible collection of the world's most famous guitars! I've had the privilege of hearing almost all of them on records, seeing fewer of them in person, but I have never seen any of them in such a creative, artistic presentation. The details of these instruments are something that I wouldn't have ever thought to look for, and it brings the reader into an intimate perspective with these instruments of lore. I feel like I'm playing them, like I'm scratching them or denting them, just like the years and years of playing, touring, and handling has shown. Truly incredible.

HASH(0x9947e504) von 5 Sternen Awful Binding & Terrible Shot Selection 12. August 2015
Von Thomas Raven - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I've never been so disappointed in a book. First off, the publisher really skimped on the binding. The book literally fell apart in my hands the first time I looked at it. The paper quality is very nice but that's a waste if the book won't hold together. After all, it was meant to be looked at, wasn't it?

As to the photography, it's top notch. However, the image selection is severely lacking. Many of the guitars get detail shots that never show the whole guitar. The two tiny shots of Keith Richards' hollow body Gibson are indicative of this trend in that they mainly just show the pickguard. I don't get it. Many of the photographs have a very shallow depth of field, so even some of the details that made it into the shot are obscured. If these pictures were to be sold as frame-stuffers at Ikea, they would work just fine. As documentation of these marvelous guitars, they fall far short. The entire book is like a teaser for all the much better photos that were left out.

HASH(0x994dcbe8) von 5 Sternen Pages Fall Out! Happened with Four (4) copies! 19. September 2015
Von R. Greenstein - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This is a wonderful example of a terrific creative effort plagued by shotty manufacturing!!

Two (2) softcover copies were purchased (as gifts for friends) in early September 2015. Each unit suffers from pages separating from the binding they very first time the pages are turned going through the brand new books.

Amazon was terrific and promptly shipped two new copies of the book. These also suffered from the same problem! Amazon advised they will be responsibly handling the matter by soon disabling ordering of the item and will notify the publisher of the manufacturing defect.

As I have only now just read other users' reviews posted to Amazon, this manufacturing flaw is apparently a pre-existing problem encountered by other purchasers.

Do not buy this book until the flaws with the binding have been corrected and new flawless inventory is available!!
