Das Buch ist voller guter Tipps für den MIttelmeerraum.
Negativ empfand ich, dass nichts über Sizilien und Kreta zu finden ist.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Don't leave home without it! 22. September 2012

There are a couple of books out there on Mediterranean cities, but very few from the perspective of a cruiser. This book is absolutely the best. It describes the ports you get into, how to get to the city centers or sights, which ones not to miss and helpful phone numbers in each place. Have you ever arrived in a foreign country and had no idea how to dial an emergency number (no it's not 911). Rick tells you how long it will take you to get where you're going and what to watch out for. I purchased the actual book (very thick) which I read before I left on my cruise and also purchased the Kindle version to take with me. Every night in my cabin when choosing my next port's shore excursion, I read that city's chapter before choosing. I highly recommend this book, even if you've been to these cities before as it's totally different when arriving by cruise ship.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Best Mediterranean Cruise book out there 13. Juli 2013

I researched and read a lot before our Mediterranean cruise. I thought that the other books I had were pretty good (Eyewitness and Fodors). I need to go back and change my previous reviews. This book is much more detailed and has the information I needed. We carried it around like a bible. So did most everyone else on the ship. Everyone had this book. The book is right on with the directions and details and saved us a bunch of money. It gives exact directions like exit and take your first left, walk 2 blocks and you'll see..... Rick Steves' also has free apps to download that you can listen to on the long bus and train rides from the ports. This book is a must if your taking a Mediterranean cruise.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Awesome guide 19. August 2013

This was our first trip to the Mediterranean and we were adamant about not purchasing the cruise line tour packages. Following Rick's guide gave us confidence to be adventurous and see the ports on our own. The information was spot on in terms of transportation, distance and travel times, theft alerts, and even photographs of various locations. While in Rome, we did as the guide outlined and went to Ancient Rome, modern, and even to Vatican City . We did three major sites all while in port. I must admit as he cautioned that it was the crazy way to see Rome, but we now have stories to share about almost missing our ship after getting around on trains , buses, and taxis. He did caution that this could happen without wise time management . All in all this was a valuable resource. Instead of spending close to $700 for the sites we visited, we did it all for close to $100, and that included lunch near the Spanish steps. So glad I bought this!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Incredibly helpful on our trip 27. Februar 2014

My husband and I took a Mediterranean cruise in the fall of 2013 and purchased this book a few months before embarkation. I can hardly express how useful it was to us, both in planning out ahead of time what we wanted to see on our shore days and in actually helping us get around each city while we were there. The book is full of practical, useful tips and advice as well as a lot of background and historical information.

We did several of Rick's walking tours in Istanbul, Rome, Venice and through the ruins at Pompeii and enjoyed being able to move on our own and at our own pace. We never felt like we missed out on anything that the expensive shore excursion groups got to see and we weren't herded around like cattle. I recommend that you take the suggestion to tear the book up and just take the city you are touring that day with you as the book is quite heavy after a few hours. Everything you need for the day is there in that chapter.

Additionally, if this is your first cruise (as it was ours) there is also a lot of helpful information about packing for the trip, what to expect on board and tips for getting on and off of the boat.

Again, not to sound like a broken record, but this book was an incredibly valuable guide that helped us get the most out of our trip without going broke.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Enjoying our trip , before we leave home! 19. Juli 2013

We cannot express fully the benefits of reading this book! We are already enjoying our trip by just 'doing a little homework' before we go on our Mediterranean cruise this fall. We've got a mental game plan formed for our first port Barcelona. Rick's book is organized in a sensible way, gives tips, describes activities and customs. We now know we are going to walk the LA RAMBLA, We are not Picasso fans so could opt out of his museum , We will wear a hidden money and document case under our clothes. Another tip! We will almost be disappointed if we don't get to be in a scam as we are going to recognize one instantly and not be a victim. We are so prepared!!! Thanks Rick!!! We are reading all about Rome now. Areviderchi! (where is Italian spellcheck?)
