About the Author

Harry Thürk (1927–2005), geb. in Zülz (heute Biala/Polen), Besuch der Real- und Handelsschule in Neustadt/Schlesien, 1944/45 Wehrdienst, nach dem Krieg Rückkehr nach Neustadt, Internierung in einem Durchgangsghetto für Deutsche, von dort Flucht nach Ostdeutschland. In der DDR Arbeit als Reporter (u.a. Auslandskorrespondent in Korea, China, Vietnam, Laos, Kambodscha), was sich in seiner literarischen Arbeit niederschlug, seit 1958 freier Autor in Weimar. Seine Bücher wurden in polnische, tschechische, slowakische, ungarische, rumänische, russische, finnische, litauische, vietnamesische und spanische Sprache übersetzt.

    Ich war letztes Jahr in Kambodscha und habe auch das Gefängnis S21 besichtigt, von dem in diesem Buch die Rede ist. Ich muss sagen, dass mich selten etwas so erschüttert hat. Auch wenn ich, dank unserer kambodschanischen Reiseführer, schon einiges über das Rote-Khmer- Regime erfahren habe, war das Buch doch sehr interessant, aber auch schockierend.Viele Sachen erscheinen so unglaublich (sind aber leider wahr). Eigentlich interessiere ich mich nicht großartig für Politik, aber dieses grausige Kapitel der Menschheit wird anhand der drei geschilderten Einzelschicksale so gut und spannend
    herübergebracht, dass ich das Buch geradezu verschlungen habe. Es ist absolut lesenswert und bekommt von mir die höchste Punktzahl.
