If you've spent time on Pinterest and follow any food boards you've no doubt experienced the beauty of these rainbow-colored French charmers. So, so pretty. And what's not to love about a beautiful edible? Nothing! Plus? They're filled with anything you could dream up. Since pretty and cream-filled is my favorite combination in the world, I gave one of the popular pins a try.

Honestly, following a Macaron recipe shouldn't be rocket science, am I right? Sadly, as comfortable as I am in the kitchen, I had never mastered them. I'll admit to only one attempt, but when they came out looking something like the smooshed oatmeal and marshmallow Little Debbie, I threw my hands up and cried Uncle. I figure you have to be French, and I'm Italian, so too bad for me.

That was until Author Lindsay Stotts (she's a chemist, which equals expert in my book) showed up with this tutorial. I'd heard through the blogvine the mystery had finally been solved, and YES, YES there was a way to make a proper Macaron and the technique was easy as could be. Maybe they don't turn out picture perfect with pretty feet like hers, but they turn out edible. She gives some incredible tried and true tips. For instance, maybe you ought to rethink how you bake them. HINT: They're still baked in the oven, but there's a trick.

The narrative is fun, the recipe isn't fussy and in the end all the guesswork is removed. The result is a mighty fine Macaron. Love it.

One of the hardest parts of finding out I was intolerant to wheat was giving up cookies. I assumed all cookies were made with wheat flour and I resigned myself to living a sad cookie-free life. That is until I discovered Macarons!!

I really enjoyed the author’s easy to understand instructions, personal experiences and humor. Not only does she share fantastic tips but there are amazing drool-worthy pictures throughout the book which are so helpful when trying to make something for the first time.

So far I’ve made a chocolate batch with peanut butter filling using the tips and recipe in this book and it turned out really well! Not perfect but super tasty and was a fun project to do with my nephew. I am so happy I found this guide, I can have cookies again! Yay for Macarons!

Ok I confess. I saw the title and thought, those don't look like macaroons at all. And I thought the author misspelled it. After reading the description, I felt more than a little dumb, and also a lot hungry. Being a fan of all things baked and delicious, I had to get this. It didn't take long to realize these aren't your Walmart cookies. These are, well, the Holy Grail of yummy. After all, they're French, and we all know the French don't screw around when it comes to culinary delights.

They're tricky to make, but this book outlined every single step and even helped with troubleshooting so if your shells crack on top or your finished product ends up dry and crunchy all the way through, you'll know where you messed up. Photos help you see what you're aiming for every step of the way. There's even links to online blog posts to further your education in the world of making Macarons. But best of all? These babies are gluten free, which makes them perfect for anyone trying to avoid wheat.

This does not qualify as a "cook book",
In fact, the only reason that i gave it 3 stars and not 1 is because it cost less then 1$,
If i would have paid a cent more, I would have gave it 1 star.

This "book" contains cooking notes of someone who baked macarons 7 times,
Well I can't count the number of times I've baked macarons since i've been doing it for over 3 years (at home, not as business) -
And I dont think it qualifies me as a specialist who can go around writing books.

Anyhow, it contains 1 recipe for macaron shells and zero filling recipes - Do your own math if it's worth 0.99$.

Lindsay Stotts tells personal stories and humorous anecdotes of her own trials when trying to bake these concoctions. She provides the equipment she uses and the preparation steps she takes, along with a few tips from her own experience. And she gives you a link list of references that helped her on her journey and can help you too.

You'll see pictures of the (good and not-so-good) macarons with beautiful colors (I especially loved the picture of the teal colored ones), as well as the preparation process so you can get an idea of how your progress should look.

I liked the honesty with which she says these cookies almost have a mind of their own and no matter how often you practice, you're not going to get every batch perfect. But you can be so creative with these, trying out a seemingly infinite number of fillings and shell flavors.

I'm someone who typically sticks to baking simpler stuff, but the gorgeous pictures in the quick start guide, Stotts' very clear directions and tips, and the mix-and-match ability you can take with French macarons has me tempted to try my own hand at them!
