To reign as queen of the annual Mardi Gras ball was a childish fancy; Caroline Saucier never expected the chance to come her way. Then her uncle who would have been king had a heart attack.

His choice as substitute is wealthy and reclusive shipping executive Ross McDougall.

If Caroline can persuade Ross to accept the king's crown, she may become his queen. But Ross, with fearless pirate's blood in his veins, is about to take his yacht out into the teeth of a gulf storm.

She can go with him or kiss the queen's crown goodbye...

4.0 von 5 Sternen Mardi Gras 20. August 2014

This is a short, sultry romance set in coastal Louisiana amidst the pageantry of Mardi Gras. The Krewe's King is having emergency surgery and has asked his niece to replace his daughter as Queen and to convince his godson to step in as King. Caroline and Ross are wary of each other but as mutual attraction draws them together, Caroline' s jealous cousin Muriel does her best to break them apart.

I enjoyed this short story and have it on my reread and recommend lists. Jennifer Blake is one of my favorite authors for historical romance, and she also delivers in the contemporary category.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Ended too abruptly 31. August 2014

I was really enjoying it, and the peek into the world of New Orleans Crews and Marci Grad and then I turn the page and there isn't one. And the refer to making love on the boat during the Storm when talking with her catty cousin, which is ok, it's non of her business what happened, but then they talk about it themselves, and it didn't happen! It's like the author decided to tone down the scene then didn't tone down the back references to it. I would have liked one more chapter.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Sweet & Passionate Mardi Gras Romance!! 25. August 2014

Another delightfully delicious romance novella by the incomparable Jennifer Blake! As always, her books are sweetly passionate and deeply romantic evoking strong emotions in me. I loved every moment of Ross and Caroline's story from the impromptu boat ride in a storm to the glitz and pageantry befitting a Marci Gras Krewe royal ball. A quick read that neither felt rushed or too short! I highly recommend it!
4.0 von 5 Sternen Short but enjoyable novella with Mardi Gras as a backdrop 21. August 2014

Queen for a Night by Jennifer Blake is a 2014 Steel Magnolia Publication.

Mardi Gras! What a party, right? For some the idea of being the Queen of the Mardi Gras ball would be dream come true. For Caroline, a dream was all it would ever be. But, when her Uncle Tony suffers a heart attack it looks like it will be Caroline who will reign as Queen. Sounds like Caroline hit the jackpot. But, there's a hitch... her uncle chooses who the King will be and he decides it should be Ross McDougall. Well, that could be a big hurdle for Caroline to jump over. Ross will be a hard nut to crack.
When Caroline boards Ross's yacht for what should have been a short easy trip, things go awry when they are caught out in a storm.

The south, and especially New Orleans can feel like an entirely different country to some people. Mardi Gras is a HUGE deal and being the queen of the ball is a coveted honor. But, before all is said and done Caroline may feel like it's more trouble than it was worth. Old resentments will put Caroline in the line of fire between Ross and another woman who is hell bent on revenge. What Caroline didn't count on was her reaction to Ross McDougall who apparently has been carrying a torch for her.
But, with petty jealousy and manipulations going on behind their backs, Caroline's fairytale night could end up being the worst night of her life.
Ross and Caroline had previous relationships that left them with scars in one way or another. Can they put the past behind them and overcome the machinations of a shallow and vindictive woman to find love?

This short contemporary romance with the excitement of Mardi Gras as the backdrop focuses on the fear of taking a change on love after being hurt. The way the couple were tossed together and the end result will leave you satisfied knowing who really got the last laugh. The is an enjoyable read, a bit too rushed and I felt the story could have been a little meatier, giving us a little background on Uncle Tony and his motives, but novellas give us a “ get right to the point” story and sometimes that is just what I am in the mood for . This one is a 3.5 rounded to four.

I loved Ross. He was lovable and he tried to be understanding. Caroline was very sensitive and had a huge depth of emotion. I liked the premise and obviously the hea.
That said I felt like this story was a little bit scattered. I felt like there was a lot of background that I was missing out on. Then even as things were explained, little details were left out or reactions were assumed when they didn't seem inherent. Several times I had to go back and re-read whole pages to catch one little, unimportant detail that is later mentioned in some significant way.
Also, Murielle, Emma and Tony were bright up but their characters were never really formed and their parts never carried out all the way. An extra chapter would have made the story feel more compete.
I actually liked this story a lot but I just couldn't ever get into it fully.
