"Flynn demonstrates that he truly understands the psyche of the enemy.... Really scary, so realistic." -- BOOKREPORTER.COM

"Fantastic." -- GLENN BECK

Kurzbeschreibung

An exhilarating political thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn, praised as “the best pure adrenaline-charged action writer out there today” (The Providence Journal).

When Washington, DC’s National Counterterrorism Center is struck by a series of devastating explosions, the results are catastrophic—185 killed, including public officials and CIA employees. Such an act of extreme violence calls for extreme measures—and elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, joining forces with trusted team member Mike Nash, finds himself in the frustrating position of having to illustrate the realities of national security to government officials up in arms over the agents who rushed in to save countless American lives. Meanwhile, with three al Qaeda terrorists still at large and Nash traumatized by the horrors he witnessed during the attack, Rapp must help his friend while threading his way through the naysayers on Capitol Hill—and silently, swiftly, do what he must for the sake of his country and the pursuit of honor.

"Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem." -- Psalm 51:18

If you haven't read any Mitch Rapp thrillers, don't start with this one. At least go back and read Extreme Measures which contains the events that precipitate the events and actions in this story.

Mitch Rapp gets a bad rap from some people who object to his use of violence. As Pursuit of Honor makes clear, Rapp is a utilitarian, someone who calculates what provides the greatest good for the greatest number . . . rather than someone who follows a fixed moral course regardless of consequences. John Stuart Mill would approve.

I particularly enjoyed the ways that Vince Flynn has Mitch Rapp literally turning in mid-action to change directions after he perceives a better opportunity for accomplishing his aims of protecting the U.S. from terrorists and those in the U.S. who try to stop or slow down his defensive tactics. I cannot remember a better book in the series for explaining the moral position that powers Rapp's decisions and actions.

The book also provides the kind of behind-the-scenes look into the kinds of dilemmas that anti-terrorism experts must face on a daily basis, such as locating the bad guys before they do any more harm, avoiding the exposure of valuable sources, staying free of political enemies, and not being accused of crimes. I suspect that a moral philosopher could use enough situations from this book to hold interesting discussions concerning what is the right thing to do that could go on for years.

But this book isn't a book about talk: There's plenty of action.

In tracking down the remaining terrorists involved in the attacks on Washington, D.C.

If you needed a pen or a paper you were in the wrong business".

5.0 von 5 Sternen Flynn does it again--an excellent political thriller 14. Oktober 2009
Von Deborah V - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
As a huge Vince Flynn fan, I ran out and purchased this the minute the bookstore opened this morning and then sat and read it for most of the day. I think this is his best book in the last five years or so.

If you read Vince Flynn, then you know you can depend on him to tell it like it is with regards to Washington politics and terrorism through his political thrillers and in particular his hero Mitch Rapp. This book is off and running from the first sentence and doesn't stop until the end.

The book continues where Flynn's Extreme Measures: A Thriller (Mitch Rapp Novels) left off and opens after 185 people are killed in Washington DC; many at the National Counterterrorism Center and they include senators, staff, and cabinet. Mitch Rapp has rounded up the terrorists, but three escape and the chase is on. While Rapp is trying to find the escaped terrorists before they kill again, he is being investigated over his interrogation methods in Extreme Measures. Rapp also has to contend with Glen Adams, Inspector General of the CIA who wants to bring Rapp down via a Deep Throat scheme.

Mitch Rapp is both a simple and yet a complicated hero. He is single minded in his pursuit of America's safety. He is a pragmatic operative in terms of how he looks at terrorism and has little time for the games politicians play. Vince Flynn has developed a strong hero with many layers that when delicately pulled back reveal a complicated man on a mission to counteract terrorism; sanctioned or not. He'll do what is necessary to keep America safe.

I hate to get too specific since this is a thriller and it is easy to give spoilers that will ruin the read for folks, but this book rocks! Flynn has really managed to revitalize the series with this offering!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great Read 15. Oktober 2009
Von R. PETERSEN - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I loved this book. Vince Flynn is a very entertaining author. I enjoy all of his books. If you're looking for great literature this is not the book for you, but if you are looking for an exciting read buy this book. The book follows Mitch Rapp and company as they track down Saudi terrorists in the U.S. The reason this book is so great is that it is entertaining and fun from start to finish. Many other authors who write spy novel get caught up in the details and go off on unnecessary tangents throughout their books. Flynn doesn't do that. His books are focused and exciting. If you are a fan of the CIA and hate the PC culture in the United States you'll love this book and the main character, Mitch Rapp.

3.0 von 5 Sternen It Was Just "Okay" 26. Oktober 2009
Von Michael Gallagher - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I bought the Kindle version of this book the day it came out - yes, I did receive $9.99 worth of value out of it as an entertainment factor. Flynn still writes a good story but, in my opinion, i think it's time to give Mitch Rapp a break in the action as things are coming fairly predictable. Here's the book outline (as well as several of the latest Rapp series books): a terrorist commits a vile act - in this case a continuation of the last story, the President says go get them but don't involve me for political cover, someone in Congress has a burning desire to crater the CIA in general and Mitch Rapp in particular, Mitch kills a bunch of people as judge/jury/executioner, and Rapp saves the day once again.

Again, I certainly think the price and entertainment value were in line. However, I think Vince Flynn is a great writer, but I'd like to see a new twist or plot develop from him vs. the tried and true Mitch Rapp cash machine. I think I will wait a little longer from the release date before buying the next one.

5.0 von 5 Sternen In the Land of One-Sit Reads, Flynn is King 19. Oktober 2009
Von Bookreporter - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
The mere existence of PURSUIT OF HONOR, Vince Flynn's latest Mitch Rapp thriller, is enough to make one stand up and cheer even before its binding is cracked open. Those familiar with Rapp know him as the CIA agent who colors outside the lines, effectively getting the job done while incidentally keeping the country safe. Rapp is becoming a literary icon, the guy you would be proud to have as your friend and glad to have watching your back. Those holding out for a hero in these bleak times need look no further than Flynn and PURSUIT OF HONOR, as accurate a title and as exciting a novel as you are likely to encounter...at least until the next time Flynn takes fingers to keyboard.

PURSUIT OF HONOR takes place shortly after the conclusion of EXTREME MEASURES, which featured a series of cataclysmic events that left the nation reeling. Rapp and Mike Nash, his trusted protégé, managed to thwart a dastardly terrorist attack before it reached its ultimate goal, but not before it exacted a great personal cost upon first responders and those who support them. In the aftermath, Rapp is engrossed in plugging a potential intelligence leak but must also deal with Nash, who is marked with adverse psychological aftereffects following the previous book's events and the losses he has suffered.

Meanwhile, Karim, the mastermind behind the attacks --- the self-styled "Lion of al Qaeda" --- and his two somewhat reluctant associates are crossing the heartland of America, cutting a bloody swath that, unbeknownst to them, will bring their pursuers closer to identifying them. Rapp's most immediate and dangerous enemies, however, are the leaders of the nation who he has sworn to protect and who seem hell-bent on turning the United States over to its enemies without a single shot being fired. Flynn does an excellent job of portraying the so-called progressive mindset in action with dialogue so frighteningly accurate that it almost seems to have been lifted verbatim from C-SPAN.

Once Rapp has dealt with the oversight committee, he must turn his attention to Karim, who is inadvertently goaded into a confrontation in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, Rapp neatly maneuvers Nash into a position that seemingly benefits everyone. His plan backfires, though, in a way that he never anticipated, and PURSUIT OF HONOR concludes with a chilling and dangerous confrontation where Rapp once again puts everything on the line to protect the two things he loves most --- his nation and his friends --- from a deadly attack.

Flynn, who made his debut over a decade ago, shows no sign of slowing down. If you have a long night ahead of you, PURSUIT OF HONOR is the book to pick up to keep you company. In the land of one-sit reads, Flynn is king, and his latest is Exhibit A for that proposition. The first half of the book moves rapidly, and as for the second half, all I can say is strap yourself in, particularly for the last 50 pages.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Enjoyable But Alarming Book That Is All Too Similar To What is Going on in Washington Today 16. Oktober 2009
Von Big D - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Mitch Rapp has been spending a lot of time in Washington lately, and the alarming thing is that Rapp and Irene Kennedy, head of the CIA are fighting the exact same battles we read about in the newspapers and hear about on television every day.

Congress and the American people who were so supportive of their efforts after 9/11 have now become moralists and are more worried about protecting the rights of foreign detainees than supporting Rapp, Kennedy and those sworn to give their lives to protect us.

This is a major thrust of "Pursuit of Honor," but it is also the major thrust of what is going on in Washington and politics today. Most of what the American people hear today would condemn what Rapp, Kennedy and the Vince Flynn's CIA call "extreme measures."
To support or condone "extreme measures" today (October,2009) would be considered to be un-American. Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp at least give us the other side of the debate--and what could happen if the United States' loses its focus on the War on Terror.

Sometime truth is stranger (and more tragic) than fiction. Let's hope this is not one of those times.

Let this be said for Mitch Rapp--he is an over-achieving, under- appreciated American, counterterrorism at its best.

And Vince Flynn? He's the best, simply the best. And this is another great read from Flynn. His magic continues.

Be prepared to the read the last 75-80 pages at one sitting. And if you have a weak heart, have your medicine near by. This is a thriller. You would expect nothing less from Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp.
