The first 5 chapters of this book had me glued to the pages. The book starts off with some fascinating history and personal information about psilocybin mushrooms. The rest of the book gives some very detailed information for hunting them. Some of the pictures are rather small, but for the most part identification is very helpfull with this book, but I would get at least one other field guide to go with it.

This book is a must for any enthusiest of Magic Mushrooms. The Photographs and detailed descriptions of the various species make this book a definite must for anyone wanting to identify Magic mushrooms, including deadly look alikes. The book is a complete guide, from history, experiences and all relative information that you could want. Paul Stamet's is "The Man" of mushrooms and a lot of his time and effort has gone into making this book factual and interesting. Hope you enjoy this book a much a I have.

This book is the best single resource for information about Psilocybin mushrooms. The book starts out with a brief history of the use of these mushrooms, and then moves on to a
general review on their nature and habitat. There is an extensive section listing many different kinds of Psilocybes and similar mushrooms with a thorough description and photograph on most of them.

If there is a single flaw in this book, it would be that the pictures are small, and therefore difficult to scan for details. Also, some of the pictures aren't very good in general, making it difficult to see how the mushrooms in the pictures match the descriptions in the book. I would suggest more and bigger photographs for the second edition of this book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with any kind of interest in Psilocybe mushrooms

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fascinating book including historical use, interesting facts and captivating stories. 10. November 2015
Von A customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
A wealth of information and insight from author Paul Stamets. Along with identification and biological information on mushrooms, he includes personal history and stories that are fascinating to read. The history of the mushroom in different cultures and religions along with the resurgence of psilocybin use in the 60s and to more current times is very interesting to read and ponder. This is a fascinating read even if you don't collect spores, molds, and fungi like Egon.

I will say that my disappointment so far lies in there not being a really user friendly guide to hunting the different species of mushrooms. I really wanted something that would give me a state or region and then show pictures and descriptions and where they usually grow (tree trunk, under bushes, etc.) and also possible seasonality of when the best times are to look for them by region. I'm not sure if this has been compiled by anyone yet because I've been looking and haven't found one yet that includes everything I want. This is a book I would buy again, even though it was missing that information that I was hoping for.

3.0 von 5 Sternen It does have a lot of good info for a beginner 29. November 2015

I bought this book as more of a field guide to identifying wild mushrooms. This book (like the Title says) is no more than a collection of mushrooms from all over the world. It does have a lot of good info for a beginner, interested in this topic, but It is not meant to be a field identification guide.
5.0 von 5 Sternen A very good magic mushrooms identification guide! 15. März 2016

Its the second time i buy this buy... It arrived today and im so happy... I lost my other copy last month on
a camping but i can say this book is pure quality... It resisted the rain the campin handling and all that stuff...
The binding of the book is well done... I definitively would buy this book a third time if i need so... Im a very happy
curious person and i love to travel and camping and sometimes i loose things but thats ok,.... With a smile i remember
my last adventures with this book and i know the ones to come will be the best... Stamets work is great and handful...

Colorful... Lovely... Nice Photos... Good Information for the mushroom enthusiasts out there...
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the matter...

Lots of facts... I was surprised of the little i know around the subject of psilocybin mushrooms!!!
Data and comments around many species and many lessons for all the mushroom hunters out
there...
5.0 von 5 Sternen A must own book. 12. März 2017

First: This is an excellent book, and it was written to help save lives of the increasing number of people who have an interest in psilocybin mushrooms. Other books/authors ignore and minimize much of the information required to positively identify magic mushrooms from other look-a-likes that can sicken or kill. His "harm reduction" philosophy is refreshing. A must own book.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic and informative book 11. August 2016

Fantastic and informative book. Paul Stamets may actually save this world with mycelium if we will listen. Thank you for breaking the taboo on something used since man walked upright! Worth every penny for the historical information and the current information! Fascinating read even if you don't plan to try mushrooms.
