'I would recommend that program managers who want a simple and useful guide to get hold of a copy of the book and keep it handy. Organizations should place a copy of the book in their library along with books on strategy and strategy implementation. For academics teaching a course in program management it would be a good as a textbook or as a reference book from which relevant readings can be suggested to students.' Associate Professor Shankar Sankaran University of Technology, Sydney for PPPM eJournal 'The highlight of the whole book is how it deals with and explains programme governance. What makes this theme throughout the book so refreshing is that it clearly places governance in the context of organisational strategy rather than the normal command and control model that is often assumed to be good governance. In summary, Program Management is a thought-provoking book - it forces the reader to consider programme management as a discipline in its own right.' Reviewed by Ed Burney-Cumming (Project and Programme Delivery Director for Instigate Solutions Ltd) in Project Magazine 'I consult and teach in this area and welcome this book as a very useful contribution on the topic - It is certainly the best book I have read on the specific subject of Program Management, and represents considerable research, reflections on experience and new thinking on a current prominent subject.' 5.0 von 5 Sternen An important, ground-breaking book. 13. November 2010
Von Russell D. Archibald - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
"Program Management" is an important, ground-breaking addition to both the practice and the literature of program and project management. Michel Thiry has produced an authoritative, readable, interesting, and practical summary of the evolution of the discipline of program management. He has done this by combining the best practices and standards of the several project management professional associations with his 35 years of experience as an architect, project and program manager, consultant, and teacher in both program and project management in many economic sectors and governmental agencies in many parts of the world.
The evolution over the past several decades of program management, and its recently recognized status as a management discipline that is distinctly different from - although highly dependent upon - the principles and practices of project management, is very well described in this book. In the 1950s the only place you could find program managers was in the military/aerospace industries, and it was then generally accepted that programs consisted of groups of inter-related projects. Since the 1990s project portfolio management emerged as an effective way to govern and manage groups of related projects, and many authors, included me, have written about managing portfolios of projects and programs. This approach may still be valid as long as one continues to define programs as simply groups of related projects.
I enthusiastically recommend "Program Management" to today's program and project management executives, practitioners (program and project managers and specialists), consultants, trainers, and all others who want to gain a sound, in-depth understanding of this important development in the field of program and project management

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good book overall, wasn't my favorite for studying for the PgMP certification. 6. Dezember 2014
Von Jide's Mom - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
While a good book with a lot of good info for Program Management, for me it was a little confusing for studying for a standard certification such as the PgMP. Although it is recommended for that, I found his switching between the different standards to be too confusing when you really need to keep a strong focus on the very specific details the PgMP test will ask you.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Solid Book Linking Strategy to Projects 3. Dezember 2012
Von karma4you - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The author lays out and explains the key components in managing complex programs in great detail. He also provided examples which were quite helpful for me to grasp certain concepts. Let's face it, program management is a dry subject, but this book managed to captivate my interest. Quite frankly the PMI standard program management guide is a big yawn (sorry PMI!) and is too high level to provide any value other than a study guide to pass the exam. I need real life concepts and scenarios for me to learn and sharpen my leadership skills.
5.0 von 5 Sternen One of two recommended books on Program Management 9. Juni 2013

Would Buy Again. One of two recommended books on Program Management, the other is Portfolio and Programme Management Demystified: Managing Multiple Projects Successfully Geoff Reiss, Paul Rayner. I really find it annoying that you have to keep typing until you have twenty five words in these reviews. I would be inclined to fill out mofe if they would take off this requirement.

This author shows in a practical but deep way how to manage programs, taking in consideration different standards and developing his own.
