This book is a unique mix of interesting tidbits, great ideas, healing thoughts, general self improvement work and the science behind women's bodies and weight loss.
I have been on this plan for five days and have already shifted my perception about myself and my weight loss journey. I hold my head higher and walk like a "Princess" down the NYC Street and the way that I hold myself has changed people's reaction / interaction with me. I went to yoga and I loved it. As an aggressive business woman I thought that yoga would bore me. Instead I felt more in tune with my body. I felt energized. I was in touch with my body again. I went and got my nails done (another suggestion in the book). I've made a vow to love myself through the weight loss process instead of beating myself up. Every time I see my nails (something so simple) I am reminded of the new deal that I have made with myself.
I have not felt this positive and motivated in a very long time. I do believe that inside of every woman there is a "Princess." That "Princess" is simply the best you that you allow yourself to be!
Some reviews I read found the "princess" concept a bit girlish and silly, but on the other hand maybe it helps us to be a little more playful and fantastic about our lives, bodies and spiritual selves.
There are recipes in the back, which I haven't tried, but look simple and tasty. Dr. Hanes also shows that healthy eating can be very affordable by including the time/dollar costs for each of the recipes.
Overall, this is a good book for anyone who's let herself get out of the habit of good self-care. I'd love to see her write a version for men, too.
I found myself being NICER to myself almost immediately. Her tips on the body/mind connection, your inner words, your physical appearance and self-hygiene, and things to do to make yourself IMMEDIATELY feel better and happy to treat yourself well make this book worthwhile.
I also found that when I purchased the e-book, AMAZON gave me a very reasonable offer for the unabridged audio book, which I immediately purchased. It's so nice to listen in the car when you're using N.E.T. time (no extra time) that would be spent grumbling about traffic (hello DC area folks!) or listening to talk radio.
ALSO - she has a blog (which you can google) to give you an idea of the author and her book. It isn't the best website, but it's full of information if you scroll through the entries. Still, get the book, you'll enjoy it.
If you find that this review has helped you, or if you have any other questions, please let me know... and thanks for reading my review! Cheers :-)
