'A terrific read. Hogan has woven a rich narrative of friendship, young love and mounting suspense' Stephen King 'Compelling ... smart, speedy and stylish - a literary pulp fiction' Jeffery Deaver 'Hogan is a superb writer, and Prince of Thieves is a grand novel peopled with believable characters in heart-wrenching scenes that throb with masterful suspense ... this is simply great fiction that should not be missed' Ed McBain 'One of the most stylish thrillers of the year' Guardian
In a blue-collar Boston neighbourhood, a planned robbery takes place. The men wear masks. Their guns are drawn on the pretty bank manager, Claire Keesey, who nervously recites the alarm code, and the tumblers within the huge vault fall. The timing and execution are brilliant. It could be the perfect job. A huge sum of cash is stolen, but so too is one man's heart, as Doug MacRay, the brains behind the tough, tight-knit crew of thieves, falls for Claire. But she has another admirer: FBI agent Adam Frawley, who is beginning to zero in on the gang, and for Doug, pursuing Claire may be his most dangerous act of all.Alle Produktbeschreibungen

The book and the film are very different, especially in the ending which I won't divulge. Suffice to say, one has a tidier ending, and one has a realistic ending. The book's ending is darker and a little sudden (especially if you've already seen the film), but I think the book's ending is stronger. Unfortunately, the movie-going public doesn't like unhappy endings so Ben Affleck had to change a few things in his film.
The characters are terrifically realized. The crew is ruthless and violent, but you never root against them for a minute. The FBI agent tasked with finding and stopping the crew is quite the antagonist in the book, creepy and obsessed with other things as well as justice. The heist scenes are very well written. Fast-paced and hectic, they contrast nicely with the slower character developing scenes and the love story. I can't recommend this novel highly enough, especially to those who love the heist genre.
