3.0 von 5 Sternen Young dinosaur lovers will enjoy the pictures and the dinosaur chase 24. April 2015
Von Sunshine on a Rainy Day - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
A small dinosaur is looking for a meal, but suddenly he is at risk of becoming a meal himself. He manages to get away a couple of times, but suddenly an even bigger dinosaur comes along who will surely eat him. But the little dino asks, "Have you ever played with your food?" At first the predator is not convinced, but finally he agrees to play tag which he thoroughly enjoys until and even larger dinosaur comes along to spoil their "fun."

The illustrations look like they are painted or done in watercolor marker. The colors bring you back to the prehistoric times. But the pages are at times overcrowded for the younger eye and the flow at times was confusing especially when they played tag. The little dinosaur was quite adorable.

Although this was a fun dinosaur concept, the words and illustrations did not flow together well for me. It felt flat as if the dinosaur were not actually speaking, but someone else was speaking for him. The separate colored text for each speaker was helpful. Young dinosaur lovers will enjoy the pictures and the dinosaur chase. I would recommend it for slightly older than advertized--for ages 4-7.

My boys enjoy the fun storylines that this author always seems to master, as well as the colorful and personable illustrations.
As an artist myself, I aspire to create illustrations as enchanting as those within the pages of David Derricks stories. I'm sure it not easy find a balance in illustration between a dinosaur looking too ferocious and overly friendly, but the art in Play with Your Food hits the mark perfectly.
Play with Your Food will appeal to not only young dinosaur fans, but it's also sure to get any child who has been told not to play with your food giggling out loud. The story is simple and funny, and just long enough to keep the attention of even the younger readers. There's plenty of room for a child's imagination to roam in between the lines, especially if they take their time to explore the illustrated pages.

I love this book! So cute, I love the illustrations Mr. Derrick does. The story is really fun as a small dino finds a way to not get eaten, then a larger dino comes along......
