When Peter advertises for an instructor to a blind child, Sarah sees this as the opportunity to investigate her beloved Mary's murder. When Sarah meets Peter, she is shocked by the depth of emotiom he feels for his son, and the degree of guilt and loneliness he feels over Mary's death. She is even more astonished to find herself falling in love with a person she has been demonizing since 1880. To Peter's amazement, the arrival of Mary has pulled him out of the depths of despair and given him new hope. However, if Peter did not kill Mary, someone else did and they still lurk in the shadows, perhaps regarding Sarah as their next target.
PERFECT IN MY SIGHT is a brilliantly scribed American gothic that brings to life late nineteenth century New York. The lead characters brilliantly portray a pair of guilt-laden individuals, who find a second chance with the other. The historical story line blends elements of suspense and romance into a gothic setting that could only have scribed by a terrific talent like Tanya Anne Crosby.
I have long been a fan of Tanya Anne Crosby and have yet to find one of her books that didn't completely reel me in. This one was even harder to put down than usual because of the added murder mystery component. It is rare that I don't figure out "who dunnit" by the second or third chapter, but this book kept me guessing until the very end. I literally gasped in shock when the perpetrator was unveiled.
For that, I tip my Kindle to you, Ms. Crosby.
Besides the page-turning mystery element, this story is a beautiful one of forgiveness and healing. Never were there two more guilt-laden souls than Sarah Woodward and Peter Holland. Sarah regrets cutting her cousin and beloved friend Mary out of her life after she breaks their childhood pact and.....gasp....MARRIES someone. Before they can mend their relationship, Mary is murdered. Peter Holland knows he did not kill his wife, Mary, although everyone suspects that he did---but he does know he killed her spirit by shutting her out of his life.
A strong need to bring her cousin's killer to justic lands Sarah in Peter's house, posing as a blind tutor for his young son who was blinded the same night Mary was murdered. She must prove Peter is guilty and protect the little boy that the only connection she has left to her beloved friend. She just needs to find the evidence.....
I loved this book. 5++ stars :)
Tanya Anne Crosby seems to write well, regardless of the genre or setting. She always stays true to the period in which she sets her stories and she is very good with characterisation and dialogue. I have never been disappointed in her books, although I definitely liked some better than others.
This book was written several years ago, and anyone who appreciates a traditional romance, without a lot of sex, bad language, paranormal elements, and gory violence should enjoy this story. If you only like hot romance, this one is not for you.
