So I'm new to Pro-E and solid modelling in general. I have lots of 2d, 2.5d, and 3d CAD experience. I took a one-week introduction to Creo course through PTC. I have found this book to be FANTASTIC. The book takes you step-by-step through the process... no prior experience with the program is assumed. My company would have saved tons of money by having me sit at my desk and work through this book, and the companion intermediate level book, for a week or two rather than sending me out to training. I understand the prior commentors issue related to the book being written to version 1.0, but mine came with an "update booklet" that indicated differences between v1.0 and 2.0. I have not found this problematic. The update booklet is not 100% comprehensive, but a close read of the material allowed me to get through it. Chapter 1 of the book is long and detailed. It teaches you how to launch the program, how to navigate the program, how to view models, and how to access features. Gutting through this first chapter is really important (I think) for understanding the program. The rest of the chapters are more rewarding to get through because they provide details of how to generate features. That is, you actually accomplish something. So hang in there through chapter 1!
The authors use of nomenclature is consistent throughout. They flag when something is referenced by more than one name. Consistency of descriptions is critical, imo, for people trying to learn something as complex as Creo.
The authors spend time introducing the extensive Creo help system and encourage its use while training.
The authors recommend a team learning approach, where two rookies work together to get through the material. This isn't necessary, particularly if you have power users in your office who can assist you when you get stuck.
Other than professionals, an important user group for this book would be engineering students. The step-by-step approach used by the authors would be quite useful for a lab/class, or for interns going into an office that uses Creo. This program requires an intensive training investment. The learning curve is very steep imo. Exposure to CAD prior to working through the material would be very useful, but this is a function of Creo's complexity and not a defect of the book. The book makes learning Creo possible. One-on-one or classroom training would not work as well as making an honest effort to work hard through this book, and the follow-on intermediate level book.
I have seen co-workers fall behind at their job because they couldn't "figure out" Creo. It is a very hard program to use due to its complexity. This book would have prevented that and I am really glad I made the investment.

Recycled material from Pro-E book
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 23. April 2012Verifizierter Kauf
I was really hoping this book would give me an introduction to Creo as I have already taken the Pro-E course (same author). The models and content are recycled from the Pro-E book and does not point out the difference between Pro-E and Creo besides the little interface differences. I am fairly disappointed because I see the book publisher merely changed the cover and made minor alterations to command a higher price.
