if you're looking at this monitor, it's expensive so you might want to know things over and above the spec sheet. i will take you through the first few days with it.

firstly the box is huge and heavy. going from a 28 inch 4k to this, i didn't appreciate how big it really is.

next, it comes disassembled so you have to put everything together which is actually very easy. some advice, take the monitor out with the box flat as it's heavy to try to lift out.

second, put it on a bed or something soft face down when you put the cables in - this is important, you need to put the cables in first as there is a back plate which "clicks" on after the cables are plugged in so you cannot get get the cables in after you put the plate on. this includes any usb devices as once the back plate goes on, you cannot access the usb ports (which is a shame if you want to be able to put thimb drives in and out)

the screws are tool free as you can see in the picture so you just use your fingers to tighten and everything has a solid feel to it.

the foot print of this monitor is a bit strange. the front two feet span out which is fine, but there is an annoying third foot which means the monitor cannot go flush against a wall and sticks further into your face than a usual double foot stand. this seems to have been done for design as opposed to function to match the rog logo.

right out of the box, it works fine - didn't read the instructions, simply into windows, 30 seconds to turn on the 100hz over clock and install the windows drivers and all was working fine. the toggle switch and buttons are so easy to use coming from a monitor that had many levels of menu buried in each other.

the monitor has srgb mode, but this stops any color adjustments or brightness adjustments. i use this only for gaming and the odd movie so i prefer using one of the presets (fps, race, scene) as they are a little brighter.

my main concern was the dpi going from a 4k and in games, i do not notice any dpi issues - the image actually looks a little nicer due to the lower res, i can turn on some anti aliasing and the 100hz + gsync gives such a smooth experience. in windows, the dpi is a little noticeable than the 4k monitor i had but it's expected. however, the advantage of having so much "stuff" open all over the place, you don't really notice it.

the speakers are useless, but you're not buying a monitor like this for the sound so you might want to mute them.

the little rog lights, depends on your preference really, but i leave it turned off.

the monitor has a really good range of height and tilt to suit every angle you'd need.

after a couple of days use now, the "wow" factor is still there - every game feels so immersive due to the size of the screen and the picture quality, colors and smooth frame rate are just as you'd expect from such a high spec monitor - really cannot fault it. one added surprise is that movies don't have borders as all movies seem to be in the ultrawide aspect ratio so even here i am enjoying the experience of a full screen picture.

the back light bleed on this is quite visible - but more often then not, you don't notice it, really only in the odd dark scene. be aware of this - it's something most ips panels suffer from.

due to a couple of issues with the "packaging" (inaccessible usb ports and excessive/useless third foot) i will have to knock a star off.

i don't think i can ever go back to a non ultrawide format again.

as an aside, this was an amazon warehouse deal - packaging came a little scruffy, but the item seemed brand new - still with plastic covers, all accessories unopened, way better than i expected!

Well I bought the monitor after weeks of thought and review checking. It was between this one and the Acer Preditor. I decided to go for the ASUS because the build quality looked better, using better materials and im glad I did. The quality is outstanding and it all worked straight out the box, very easy to assemble. The product came discretely packaged and the polystyrene insets kept the monitor nice and snug for transport.

I can honestly say that this is the nicest monitor my eyes have ever seen, I actually use to have a 4k TV and this is a bigger WOW factor when playing games. Its very immersive and the colours are great. the on screen interface is simple and easy to use with lots of features.

The only thing I will warn you about is think about your graphics card before buying this monitor. Im using a MSI GTX980 4gb GPU and although I'm able to use it still it has hindered performance a bit. For instance while running games at 3440 x 1440 i am getting less frames. in GTA on ultra im only getting 25-30FPS, on Arma 3, im again only getting 30 FPS. Now I haven't actually attempted to use Gsync yest or overclocking but I will try and update later. Im also personally thinking of buying either a better GPU or getting another 980 to run a SLI.

But so far out of the box, i'm very impressed. although it might not be worth the £1000 i paid for it. I recommend waiting for a sale, if you can get for Less than £700 then don't hesitate.
