Lyman Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York, on May 15, 1856. Over the course of his life, Baum raised fancy poultry, sold fireworks, managed an opera house, opened a department store, and an edited a newspaper before finally turning to writing. In 1900, he published his best known book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Eventually he wrote fifty-five novels, including thirteen Oz books, plus four “lost” novels, eighty-three short stories, more than two hundred poems, an unknown number of scripts, and many miscellaneous writings. Baum died on May 6, 1919. He is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Glendale, California.

HASH(0x913f4da4) von 5 Sternen Finally a nice quality edition -- sadly no illustrations beside cover art 14. März 2013

Once most of the Oz works became free of copyright a lot of lousy editions flooded the market. I am glad to finally see a good quality edition on the market. The paper is good quality and the bindings are solid. The text was reset and I didn't see any obvious errors. The cover art is nice. Sadly, none of the beautiful art from Neil and/or Denslow is included which is an utter pity because I can still picture them from my childhood. Books of Wonder seems to own the rights to the illustrations but practically speaking, I can't house 15 volumes.

HASH(0x917cb00c) von 5 Sternen Check for misprints 23. Juli 2013

I got a deal on this complete set. Always wanted the OZ series and when I saw this I had to take it. All five volumes are nice hardcover. The books are separated in each volume nicely and easy enough that you have no trouble finding the book your on, for those of us who don't like to use book marks.

One thing I did notice that I had missed at first, I do not have the complete second book. In volume one, part of The Marvelous Land of Oz is missing and was replaced with The Road to Oz. Volume two has The Road to Oz and it is the complete story. When you get the collection, check to see that all volumes have the complete books in them.

HASH(0x913f4fb4) von 5 Sternen lack of illustrations hurts this set... 23. März 2013

As every reviewer has previously stated, there are no illustrations. Definitely not for kids. I thought I'd throw my two cents in for this: those of us who are adults and never read the Oz books, it's a practical set. It's not expensive considering it's five volumes, and the print is large enough for aging eyes. If you want to satisfy yourself that you've read all the Oz stories, this set will save you the bother of hunting them down individually. However, if you truly enjoy illustrations that help to embellish the mind's eye, you should probably hold out for a different collection. I'm going to keep my set, but honestly, I'm disappointed. It's OZ for heaven's sake - we want pictures, yes?

HASH(0x917cb2c4) von 5 Sternen Really Bad and Really Good 31. August 2013

At first I didn't like the look of these but when I got them I thought the cover was exceptional.

However, when reading the book, I realized whole sections of chapters were missing and other book sections were in their place! Very poor publishing!

HASH(0x917cb324) von 5 Sternen Incomplete Stories - I don't see evidence of that? 11. April 2014
Von John P. Irish - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Several folks on here commenting on how the stories are incomplete, can someone verify or deny this for the rest of us? The packaging is great, cover art is great, it's hard for me to imagine someone spending that much time and effort on the packaging and not get the internal stuff right? The idea of having the complete oz collection in a format like this is very exciting, just hope it's all there. It would be easy to cross reference the Wizard of Oz story, I have a scholarly Oxford edition of that, but the others would probably be more tricky to navigate.

I've gone through and physically verified that all the chapters in this collection (volume One only) line up with the pdf google images of the first editions of volume One of this collection, the first three stories:The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Marvelous Land of Oz, and Ozma of Oz. I did not verify all the volumes, because the complaints were with the first volume and I saw no indication of misprinting or missing chapters. Maybe they have corrected this with newer printings, but it's hard for me to believe with a publisher like Simon & Schuster they would put out a product that is as flawed as some are saying.

There are no visuals, that's true, and probably hurts the collection some. But the stories are all there, from what I can see. So I'm pleased with this collection. It would be cool if the Library of America took on this project, as that would be a great edition to their collection of American literature.
