HASH(0x9a2eca80) von 5 Sternen Excellent Source of Official Questions (Unless you own previous edition) Poor Quiz Engine 17. Juli 2014
Von GMAT Club (Expert) - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
First of all - if you own the previous version (13th edition), there are no new questions in the this book. The only reason you may want to purchase these is to have the online quiz engine available to you but it is a pretty bad system and not worth buying the guide for.

~~~ Strengths ~~~
1. Real GMAT questions retired from past tests - 907 real GMAT questions retired from past tests.
2. Online quiz engine allows you to build practice sets using the OG but it is very weak and cumbersome (more below)
3. Practice questions follow actual GMAT test patterns (it's great to have one's ear trained, esp. in verbal)
4. Overview of the Integrated Reasoning section (50 questions online)
~~~ Weaknesses ~~~
1. The quiz system is too simplistic and cumbersome. For example I have no idea how to start working on question 10. I have to restart from the beginning every single time and it seems it is not even tracking what questions I have attempted??? Very odd... perhaps I have been spoiled with good GMAT Prep and other CAT Test interfaces. I am struggling here. The exclusive videos are also not much to write about; it is very similar to what you can find on GMAC's youtube channel.
2. Questions are EASY in general (only about 5 questions are really a 750 level) based on GMAT Club member feedback. Here are the hardest ones: (V Diag 25, PS 218, DS 129, DS 131, DS 141).
3. Does not include any test-taking strategies. Though it has a few short review sections for each area, they are weak and very unfriendly
4. Questions are predominantly low to medium in difficulty which is often not representative of questions one encounters on the test
5. We really could have used some new questions. The official Guide questions are generally on the EASY side.
6. There is a 100% overlap with previous edition. 13th Edition has an 83% overlap with the 12th edition. 12th edition has a 66% overlap the 11th edition.

~~~ Contents (number of questions per section)~~~
1. Diagnostic Test - 100 questions
2. Problem Solving - 230 questions
3. Data Sufficiency - 174 questions
4. Reading Comprehension - 139 questions
5. Critical Reasoning - 124 questions
6. Sentence Correction - 140 questions
7. Integrated Reasoning - 50 questions (not included in the 907 count)
P.S. If you own the previous 13th edition, I could see some still buying the book for the advantage of having the online practice quiz access, but the issues that the online quiz engine has I would not buy it.
HASH(0x9a2ecccc) von 5 Sternen GMATPILL's Review: No New Content Compared to OG13, Just an Online Question Feeder Tool 11. Juli 2014
Von GMAT PILL (Zeke Lee, Expert) - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
As confirmed by GMAC ---- "the new edition does not contain any new questions." They never said it did -- so the marketing is accurate. It's just that --as a new edition -- users generally expect something substantial.
As GMAC has been phasing out certain questions over time and putting more emphasis on other questions (i.e. fewer and fewer idioms, and more and more meaning-based SC, for example) -- it would have been nice to see more examples of these "newer" questions so students can get a sense of where the exam is shifting towards in terms of what is being tested.
So if you already have OG13 and are specifically looking for new content, stick to what you have because you won't that here.
Here's what it boils down to:
==============================================
OG2015 = OG13 + Online question set tool + Exclusive videos
==============================================
Online question set tool = lets you create customizable question sets from the pool of existing 900 OG13 questions and spit it out to you on a computer screen
Exclusive videos = "exclusive videos from real test takers and GMAC staff who share insight and tips on GMAT preparation" - I wouldn't get too excited about this.
Now, the quality of the questions is as good as you can get. But since OG13 already exists on the market, I have to give my rating in terms of what the average customer's expectation is -- hence the 3 stars. We gave the original OG13 book 5 stars on Amazon, but unfortunately, we believe the two additional components in OG2015 are not enough to get the rating higher than 3 stars.
That said, i do have to give some credit to the online interface design. It's decent and clean. Although nice, I believe most people interested in buying a "next edition" of the book are primarily interested in additional questions rather than a fancier, more modern presentation of the same set of questions.
I personally believe the previous OG13 has more questions than you need -- so you don't really need 900 more questions. If you have OG13, stick to what you have but really get more out of what you already have. We have videos and resources aimed at helping you in this regard.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Since OG13 = 900 retired questions + online access to 50 Integrated Reasoning questions....
The OG14 effectively consists of:
1) 900 retired questions
2) online access to 50 Integrated Reasoning questions
3) Online question set tool that feeds you those 900 questions
4) Exclusive video tips from GMAC staff.
Now, items #3 and #4 are new --- but hardly enough to make OG2015 worth buying over OG13.
In fact, I'd recommend saving the $9 or so difference between OG2015 and OG13 and just buying the OG13 version to save yourself a few bucks.
You'll still have access to the same questions. And you'll still have online access to the 50 IR questions online.
**************************************
What is the Online Question Tool?
You select question type (Problem Solving / Data Sufficiency, Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Sentence Correction) as well as difficulty level (Easy, Medium, Hard, All) --- and the question digs up those questions and spits them out to you on your computer browser.
Since the actual test is in front of a computer, there is some value in seeing the questions on a computer screen rather than inside a book.
But if you are able to make this psychological adaptation between a book and a computer screen, you'll notice this is not all too different from opening the book to the Sentence Correction section and randomly picking a question. Sure, the software does a better job of picking out the level of difficulty for each question---but hey, it's not too hard too eyeball a question and get a good estimated guess of how difficult it is.
There's a timer that lets you keep track of how much time you spent on each question -- this can be generally useful.
So while there is some value in the online tool----it's not enough to meet users' expectations.
************************************
How good are the "exclusive videos"?
Well, since we teach GMAT through videos at www.gmatpill.com -- we can't comment on the value of the videos as we have a clear bias. Having said that, you should not expect these videos to expose any inefficiencies or show you any opportunities to get an advantage over the competition -- and that's simply because you can't possibly get that from the creators of the exam. Instead, you'll see general tips about the preparation process.
********************************
Where can I get more questions?
Well, the OG Quant and OG Verbal books -- if you don't already have them -- would be a good source of additional questions. These are also from the creators of the exam -- so they are as good as it gets.
HASH(0x9a2ecf0c) von 5 Sternen No better than 13th edition, problem with the online version 6. Dezember 2014
Von Pierre A. David - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I have been teaching a GMAT Review for more than twenty years (four to five times a year). I have been using the Official Guide for GMAT Review for the entire time. It's a good review book, with good problems that prepare students well for the test, as long as they are aiming for a score in the 500-650 range. It's a bit light to prepare for upper-range scores (there are few truly challenging problems), but well done otherwise.
However, I was disappointed in the 2015 version. First of all, there are strictly no changes between the thirteen edition and this one, yet the price is 50 percent higher. Second, the secondary color in the book is this awful lime green which has no contrast with the white page, which makes it difficult to read some of the passages, unless you are in exactly the right light.
However, the kicker is that the online version (which only repeats the problems contained in the book, and therefore does not add value to the purchase) has a CALCULATOR featured next to each question even though calculators are prohibited on the test. How this detail somehow escaped Wiley, the publisher, is incomprehensible. I actually had to check the policy on gmat.com (the site of the Educational Testing Service and the Graduate Management Admission Council for the GMAT) to see if it had changed. I think that some candidates are going to practice with a calculator and going to be seriously unhappy on the day of the test.
All in all, no improvement over the previous version (13th edition), and actually a drawback. If you can find the 13th on this site, save yourself some money.
I bought the book in prep for the GMAT. The book is a nice size but all the test questions can be overwhelming. This book would probably be good for someone who has 6 months+ to study (along with complete all the practice questions) for the test. If you have less time then that then buying the app (got mine for $4.99 in iTunes store) would be better. The review material from book and app are identical. Save the money were you can.
HASH(0x9a2ecf84) von 5 Sternen Mostly bought it for the website resources. Hate the website. 17. Dezember 2014
Von David Carter - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I had assumed (I know, I know) that the official digital question set it unlocked would be compatible with the official software download from the official GMAT website. Wrong. You can only access these questions on a HORRIFIC website with very poor controls. It also advertises over 900 practice questions being available online, but there are actually only 807. Perhaps the Integrated Reasoning questions bring that number up, but those are hosted on yet another separate—and horrible—website with no count as to the number of questions available.
There is only one diagnostic test available between the book and the online resources so you have to build your own "new" diagnostic tests in order to really get a sense of where you are. When you do build you own test, the questions are presented in completely random order, unlike the real test which separates them out by question type ("Problem Solving", "Data Sufficiency", "Reading Comprehension", etc).
I was hoping to be able to build realistic practice tests on the computer to practice taking the test in the way it would be administered. Unfortunately the website leaves a LOT to be desired.
