5.0 von 5 Sternen A worthy heroine for YA fiction! 29. Juli 2016
Von Shannon Boote - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
When I read I look to be transported into the story. It has to take me to that place within that sparks my imagination and creates a moving picture in my head that rolls as I read. Rose Montague’s second book in the Norma Jean's School of Witchery Series “Ghost School” succeeded in transporting me to that place. It is hard not to be giddy when a writer can combine, vampires, fae, witches, and other “unnatural beings in one book and have me wanting more…wait did I mention the zombies? Yeah, there are zombies!

Picking back up with Jewel and her band of misfit friends a lot changes very quickly. Jewel is sought for recruitment in a secret government agency that utilizes witches and other “unnatural” beings to keep the world safe. An agency that, if they knew her secret, the source of her real power, would just as soon lock her up and throw away the key. Jewel’s faith and trust in her friends and her connection to her boyfriend create a Jewel that, while still coming into her own, is cautious, yet confident. Her own inner strength and snarky wit refuse to be recruited unless they send her an agent that will tell and show her the truth, both good and bad, about aligning one’s self with such a group…enter Ghost. Of, course it is not just Jewel’s track record for dealing with those intent on doing wrong that has the agency interested, it is how she magically dealt with the threats posed that has raised a few eyebrows. So when a powerful magical device that can amplify magic, exponentially, is stolen her skills are enlisted to help Ghost find and destroy it before it can do harm.

What the agency does not know is that Jewel has secrets about powers that she fears may land her locked away, like new skills picked up from receiving blood from a vampire family member, the control she is gaining over her ability to see the future, and her still developing control over her unique and feared type of magic. Fighting a madman that can wake the dead, creating zombie armies to unleash upon the world, will unearth the full nature of her own power for all to witness, and when her secret is out and the madman is not the only one after her she will continue to fight and possibly forfeit her own life. Typical of Jewel she places her faith and trust in her friends to fight alongside her while the connection to the boy she loves is tested by another who could follow her to where her destiny truly lies.

Like book 1 in the Norma Jean's School of Witchery Series – Jewel, book 2 is full of action, adventure, sarcasm, love, friendship, strength, and magical beings of every sort. What’s even more exciting is Jewel’s true destiny and who will be standing beside her when there are no more secrets or need to hide.

Montague did it again, with a strong female character that young women should be proud to have etched onto the pages of a book. Well written, great characters, and storytelling at its best!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Truly excellent sequel 19. Oktober 2015

This is an excellent sequel in this series by Rose, Jewell is recruited to recover a very dangerous piece of witch technology that gives the user incredible power. Along the way many battles are fought against seemingly unbeatable odds. Jewel has the help of her friends in this battle and the help of a famous movie character to boot. This is a most enjoyable read as we take the journey that leads to her destiny, hearts will be broken new loves will be found and some good people will die before this story is decided, and of course the parents make an appearance. So download and enjoy as the only question remaining will be, When is the next one coming out. While you can read this as a standalone it is far better to read the first book to have the full background on the characters.

Non-stop action. Plot twists and surprises. Witches, faeries, zombies vamps and dragons—and werewolves, oh my. Not to mention military and special ops teams, espionage and intrigue. I literally cannot think of a single thing Rose Montague has left out of this grand adventure. I couldn’t stop turning the pages—because I kept waiting for a break in the action, so I could put the book down and maybe get on with my life. But no—I didn’t want to miss a thing—even though I knew all of that action-packed goodness would be there when I came back to read. Rose Montague has continued her epic paranormal saga with cool characters who do magical things in interesting settings. I love Jewel—our extraordinary heroine—and can’t wait to read more of her story—and I suspect that the third book in the J’ Amigos trilogy, Jill, will also involve Jewel—who is off to Faerie on a quest. Can’t wait!

5.0 von 5 Sternen There is a good deal of unexpected in this book. 29. Oktober 2015
Von EBW - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
First, let’s get the disclaimer out of the way. Rose and I have a professional relationship as fantasy authors. We read and critique one another’s work and do it honestly, I believe. I enjoy her writing so much that I support her art by purchasing her books. I’m pretty certain that someday she will be well known in the field and I may actually resort to name dropping.

A few months back when Rose Montague began to tease publically about a new Norma Jean’s School of Witchery book, I was elated. I enjoyed reading book 1. How could I not? There’s a namesake character in it. Imagine that! So, because she made an announcement about book 2, I knew the next book in the series was being edited for publication.

I always enjoy reading Rose’s books because in her fictitious universe damned near anything is possible. Also, I’m not sure there is any issue she will shy away from in her writing. As a result, her characters feel pretty realistic. Despite the genre and the fact that most characters have some pretty outstanding abilities to change the world to suit them, they have situations, problems with relationships and they need a little help from their friends from time to time to resolve things. So, as I began reading this one I was wondering what new wrinkles Rose might introduce. And after reading Ghost School, Book 2 of the series, I am not disappointed. There is a good deal of unexpected in this book.

I don’t think it’s a spoiler to mention there are zombies. Lot's of them. And, true to form, Rose’s zombies aren’t exactly your run-of-the-mill sort. Jewel, our returning heroine from Book 1, confronts several other challenges only one of which is figuring out what to do with a town or two filled with zombies and an evil, megalomaniacal necromancer who not only conjures them from the grave but also has stolen a piece of serious, super-secret military technology that is designed to amplify magical powers to a quantum level. Oh great! A bad witch on steroids! You get the picture.
There are other returning favorites from book 1 of the series and Jewel needs their help in dealing with the bad guy. Meanwhile, we learn all sorts of amazing new things about Jewel as she explores and defines her magical powers. Hint, she’s not just a pyro, folks.

The ending is surprising but necessary for what I think lies ahead and I can’t wait to read it. Also, there is apparently another spin-off in the works. Imagine that! Three series set in one highly imaginative universe. Gives me goosebumps.

If you’re reading this, stop after the next sentence. Read Book 1 first! Oops, you’re still reading, aren’t you? Well, you should never consider reading book 2 of a series before book 1. I mean, who does that? So, first go get book 1. And, although this series isn’t written to depend much on Rose’s other series, its characters appear in this one from time to time. So, you may as well hop on over and start reading Jade and Jane, Rose’s two other published books about Jewel’s family members. There is a third book on its way in that series as well, so be on the lookout.

If you are new to Rose Montague’s work, she’s a gifted storyteller with a vivid and sometimes wild imagination. Her work sparkles with the magic she binds to the pages with spells that only she knows how to create. She has a great feel for characters and setting up challenges that leaves readers wondering how in the hell do you overcome that? Her target audience is Young Adult. She is unabashedly a writer as well as an avid reader of the genre. If you look, you’ll see her reviewing the works of other YA writers. Although I’m no longer technically in that chronological mix, I’m still hanging in spirit. The trick is to never grow up, right? I know I never will. Just ask my kids. Anyway, I enjoy a good YA book every now and then, and Rose never disappoints. I give this a strong 5 for imagination, content and storytelling but a 4 for editing. In one place the POV shifts from Jewel to another character named Louise. A chapter break segregates it, so just be aware that toward the middle of the book that is coming. The shift is necessary and it does portend to some future things. There are a few missed typos. C’mon, every book has some, right? My overall rating is still 5.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A fantastic sequel to a remarkable series. 28. Dezember 2015

I literally can't get enough of these characters. As much as I love Jewel I now have a special spot in my heart for Ghost. I didn't think it was possible to love this book anymore than the first book but I did. If I could give it 7 stars I would. This book was action packed and flowed fast and furious. My favorite moment which had me laughing was when the sprinklers went off. I found myself snorting during it. I loved how all of the characters evolved and grew up a little. I feel like I'm watching boys and girls become men and women. I really enjoyed it. I would recommend this series to anyone who is a lover of witchcraft and action. It will not disappoint.
