Kurzbeschreibung

When a scandalous incident labels Sally Denham ‘that poor compromised Denham girl’ in the eyes of the Polite World, she is unable to convince anyone that she is innocent of the wicked rumours besmirching her name. Furious, Sally refuses to be sent in disgrace to her grandmother in Scotland, and escapes instead to a small cottage on the estate of Castle Kane. When her path crosses that of the handsome Laird, Sally cannot conceive of any reason why, having already been condemned as a fallen woman, she should not allow herself to… fall. But Sally quickly finds herself in one scrape after another, and the passionate dalliance she so recklessly embarks upon becomes the one tangle she does not want to escape.
In her second historical romance, Tess Byrnes give us another fun, light-hearted story with a sexy twist. Following her success with Waking up with a Viscount, Tess continues to delight with Never Kiss a Laird.

I LOVED this book.... I love reading about a Lady with some serious Spunk!! Sally is a character that is pleasant, has a kind heart, has a sense of humor, optimistic and always has a plan to help her over a hurtle. Hugh is the handsome Earl who is charming, considerate and thank God he took after his Mother's down to earth manner. Put those two character together and you'll have a great story within your grasp! Sally's brother Rupert is sweet and tries to help Sally any way he can, but he lacks the ability of a poker face, but I give him a E for effort and he does love his sister. Miles and Millie are Sally's trusted friends and considered family who are loyal to the bone. Sally's Mother and Grandmother are two vicious and bitter old Bats, who you'll will love to hate! Simon Atherly who wants to marry Sally only for her fortune is nothing but a Snake! Through out this book you will laugh, sigh and hold your breath with every idea Sally comes up with, and you will come accustom to the phrase "What could go wrong?" that will be your cue to prepare yourself to laugh your a** off!!!! This book is not only a keeper! Enjoy

Sally (aka Sarah Denham) is the daughter of a viscount and she has been found in a compromising situation with a cad who would like to use her fortune to pay off his gambling debts. Rather than marry him, Sally contrives to run away to a cottage in Scotland on the property of the Earl of Kane, only telling her darling brother Rupert where she is going.

Of course Sally and Lord Kane run into each other and feel an instant attraction and keep falling into each other's arms (details are fairly brief but explicit in case that's an issue for you). While their relationship is developing, Sally and her maid, Millie, and groom, Miles, are becoming accustomed to life in their cottage. Thankfully Sally rescues a young woman, Bridget, who comes from a large, local family and she teaches Sally and Millie how to cook and manage a household without servants. Bridget has a side story which is central to the developing plot.

When Sally's parents send Rupert to "find" Sally (they don't know that he already knows where she is) he meets up with Lord Kane and finds him to be a capital fellow and becomes a guest at Castle Kane. Thus begins another side story which keeps the plot rolling along at an excellent pace. Rupert may have been my favorite character - I found him charming and his relationship with Sally is heartwarming. Lord Kane is TD&H and an all around good guy, there's nothing not to like. Sally is fiesty and good natured and trying to learn to control her temper. Lord Kane appreciates her beauty and resourcefulness.

Just as in the author's first book, this story is well paced and has an excellent balance of dialogue and storytelling. The story flows very naturally, it's never stilted which is so common with new authors, and everything makes sense. Readers will occasionally need to suspend belief (or disbelief depending on how you prefer to look at it), but the characters act in a logical manner which is such a relief compared to some other books where characters seem TSTL.

Here's my quibble with this book. Those readers looking for a Scottish experience may be disappointed... there's no kilts, plaids or brogues. Even the local servants use not a hint of "didna" or other Scottish dialect. There are some nice landscape descriptions of moors and fields of heather, but this story could have taken place anywhere in England. In fact, why did her parents get a special license for marriage at the end when that's not needed in Scotland? Maybe it was still required to be married in a church or by a minister? I'm not an expert by any means.... just didn't strike me as very Scottish.

Even with this slight quibble, it doesn't take away from this being a delightful story with lovely characters and a fun plot for light reading. This is definitely an author to watch for more great work in the future.

This is my first book by Tess Byrnes. The plot is different and it has humor. I love a book that makes me laugh. Sally is set up by a fortune hunter. Her mother tries to force her to marry the man but she convinces her father to send her to live with her grandmother. Sally has no intention of being disgraced and locked away for something she did not do. This is the beginning, I did not agree with all of the story. Sally decides that since she is a fallen woman she should learn about what she is accused of. There is sex but it could have been just as good, just using our imaginations. I enjoyed the situation, it was well thought out. I will be reading more of Ms. Byrnes' books.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Delightful Highland Romp 10. Juni 2013

Sally Denham is everything you want in a Regency heroine - beautiful and willful - who finds herself in a dreadful predicament when an innocent encounter means losing her reputation unless she marries a man she does not love. Shunned by her family, she runs away to the Highlands and becomes the unwitting Laird's tenant. Sally's plan to lay low until she comes into her inheritance is foiled by the gorgeous Laird, a damsel in distress and her own implusive nature. Never Kiss a Laird is an engaging sexy read.

I don't think this one stayed strictly on the Regency track, but it was interesting.

Our heroine is compromised by a scoundrel who is more interested in her dowry than her, but as she is a lovely looking girl, he won't mind bedding her. She refuses to marry the cad and her family sends her to her grandmother. However, she has a bit of a problem with her coach and is rescued by our hero. Her grandmother just happens to be his godmother.

Our heroine decides to rent a cottage in Scotland --in a neighborhood that borders on the hero's estate. The couple meet again and spend very little time fighting their attraction to each other. She eventually finds out he isn't a Mister but Lord Kane.

Her brother comes looking for her after her family is informed she never made it to her grandmother's. And a father and mother arrive at the estate as well. They have a daughter they hope our hero will offer for. The reader quickly figures out where this is going.

There is a side story of a maid our heroine is trying to help. The girl is in the family way and is trying to be reunited with her lover.

I did have a little trouble connecting with the heroine in the beginning. She was supposed to be spirited, but to me she came off as a bit of a spoiled brat. Of course later in the story, she learns all about cooking, cleaning and gardening. OK.

No real surprises in this one, but I found it to be a good story.
