Kurzbeschreibung

A dark family secret…

Merrick von Hayden had every intention of honoring his family’s marital contract with the Pennsylvanian Hartmann family. That was until he saw Caroline, the younger sister. He can’t explain the aching attraction he feels for her, but he’s willing to risk scandal and ruin just to have her. However, there are things she can never find out. Things that would tear apart any feelings she might have for him and force her back to America. Somehow Merrick must protect her from the destruction his legacy carries.

A promise to a dying sister…

Following him to his chateau deep in Germany’s Black Forest, Caroline is caught up in a passion and seduction so strong she doubts her sanity. All the while a sinister threat hovers close by, a danger much more perilous than falling in love with the Baron. When two worlds collide, Caroline and Merrick must both make choices. Choices that could bring a new future or their demise.

[An] ingenious slant on time-travel, combined with the paranormal, makes this book complex, full of riveting emotions, historically vibrant, and a magnetic read that pulls the reader in. The spellbinding ending is just the frosting on the top."

RT BOOK REVIEWS: ★★★★½ Don’t pick up this book unless you plan to stay up all night: [Gillian Doyle writing as] Susan Leslie Liepitz draws you in deep with characters so real they might come knocking at your door. Though she’d never characterize herself as such, Cara Edwards is a psychic detective. During a period reenactment, a ten-year-old boy disappears on a restored 19th-century sailing ship and the boy’s father turns to Cara. Fearing the media frenzy, Cara at first refuses to help but finds herself fighting off physical pain until she agrees to use her powers. Having taken the case, she tries another reenactment.
On the Mystic, as Cara prepares for her turn at watch, the wall near her bunk opens. She enters the portal and walks through to 1833—still aboard the ship—where a storm is brewing. The command to “batten down the hatches” comes too late and Cara and Captain Blake Masters, a guest on the 1833 Mystic, are washed ashore. When Blake realizes Cara—even dressed as she is—is no young boy, he goes along with her tale of a young widow in search of her son. He is a true hero—very human in spite of being handsome; compassionate yet practical; and realistically frustrating at times. Gillian Doyle chooses words exquisitely in her sensual prose. The transitions in time are plausible and the author’s take on how people perceive life after death touches the heart. This is a mystical story, woven well. Everything about it strokes the senses, giving the imagination a curl-your-toes workout.

This was the first book of Susan Leslie Liepitz's that I have ever read and I was captivated from start to finish. Her writing is wonderful ... descriptive, sensitive and very touching. The story was so believable that by the end, I was almost in tears. Don't pick up this book unless you you have the time to finish it in one setting, it is that good.

Cara finds her true identity of her psychic being. Intriguing and semi-romantic. It was a nice story but semi hard to believe. But its fiction, right? It kept me reading, but ... I cant tell you the ending, wish I could. A good book even though I expected more :)

HASH(0x9234b6a8) von 5 Sternen Mystical Happenings! 23. April 1998
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
In 1998 a little boy disappears from a ship named The Mystic. The father, the police, and detectives has searched for months. Cara is his last hope.

Cara is called a Mystic. She has the gift of second sight. Using her gift, Cara follows Andrew, the little boy, to 1833 from the portal on board The Mystic. She finds herself amidst a crew in a storm. She survives and with the help of Captain Blake begins her search for Andrew. Blake does not understand how Cara seems to "know" when danger is near. She can "see" the past and future. She "understands and pictures" anything anyone thinks by tuning in. He is convinced she is insane, but his heart will not let her go. Blake calls Keoni his brother. Keoni seems to accept all Cara says as natural. Blake is not as superstitious, however. When Cara told Blake she could make him remember his past, he declined. She helps him anyway. Soon he remembered. Along with the pain from memory of his childhood, he and Cara find even more secrets hidden in his past than expected. Worse, they both fear what will happen once Andrew is found. Cara and Andrew will have to find the way back to their own time.

I'll keep this short and sweet. I don't like the reviews where they try to tell you the whole story in the review. That's why we read the book! I loved this from start to finish. Very well written, very believable. I can't wait to see if there's a sequel!!

HASH(0x9234bdb0) von 5 Sternen Interesting Time Travel Romance. 29. April 2014
Von jcat - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
It had good characters, an interesting plot, and the historical aspects were nicely detailed. It was also well written and well edited. It would have been a 4-Star read for me if not for the last part of the book. It will require some <Spoilers> in order to share my thoughts.

1. The main bulk of the book was nicely detailed and flowed well. But sadly, the last part lacked sufficient information or details when describing Blake's 20 year wait for Cara after he returned in 1979. Those 20 years deserved more.
2. Blake, after returning to Cara (in her time), was 20 years older (unlike Cara.) He should have felt some awkwardness after all that time. There should have been more obvious changes in his appearance other than 'some silver hair at his temples'. At the least, some wrinkles and some different mannerisms should have been apparent. Yet nothing gave them pause.
3. How did a Sea Captain who knows little of modern technology manage to make a living? With no money and no proof of identity?
4. Was he celibate all those years? After all, Cara would know when she read his mind..lol...
5. Why would Cara only make one attempt to talk to Andrew--since she and Blake were both so attached to the boy? They simply wait 20 MORE years until the boy is grown and needs their help. Unless I've misread the time period, that now puts poor Blake at close to 70--and now they're planning on getting involved in another adventure?

(end of Spoilers)

Since the last portion of the book seemed so rushed for me, I was disappointed. I got frustrated checking back in my reading trying to figure out the sequences of time and whether I'd missed pertinent info. Because of that, it just kind of fell flat for me. I guess I was hoping for more, since it had shown such promise. Other than issues like the ones mentioned above (which admittedly may not bug you like they did me), I found it to be a decent read.

HASH(0x9234be04) von 5 Sternen Psychics, Sea Captains, A Dog, and Romance! 4. März 1998
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I picked this book up as a "filler" for some spare time, and wasn't able to put it down until the early hours of the morning! This time-travel is well-researched, with a lot of historical detail on 19th century ships and seafaring. The characters are very believable, with a lovely romance between the two main characters. There's also a Labrador Retriever featured (you can never go wrong by making dogs part of the story--in my book, anyway!). The author handles the psychic abilities of the main character quite well. There's an interesting twist to the plot that completely surprised me! For lovers of 19th century ship romances, this will be a treat!
