some really interesting topics discussed including womens menstruation, issues to watch out for with fasting and the fact that not the same diet works for everybody, the correct diet has alot to do with the state of health of the body. the only thing i was not so convinced about is that raw food fanatics are criticized and there are cooked food recipes which as a raw foody i was dissapointed with. otherwise excellent.

I liked this book a lot. A bit frightening at how we have become so unhealthy and so addicted to certain foods and medicines. As a person searching for health and clearer mind this is really the only book to read. We make life so complicated with diets, vitamins, excessive exercise that in reality as Arnold Ehret explains we have caused our own demise. I have tried his method and I am a firm believer and every time I go back to the mucus forming foods I feel terrible not only in body but in mind. Say goodbye to unwanted weight, depression and disease. Continue your research/reading on colon cleanses. He does mention enemas in his book but to really understand how filthy your colon is, and how it is a large part of your health. Search out good books. Once your colon is clean and following a Mucusless Diet and will be surprised at the amount of energy and clarity you will have. I still can not believe that this book is almost 100 years old! My question would be, WHY has it been hidden from the bookshelves! Why hasn't it been on Oprah yet :-)

The first part of this book, when Arnold Ehret develops his views on circulation and metabolism, you might not believe that this late 19th or early 20th century, he has very bizarre ideas on basics of anatomy and metabolism. However it is fascination to read that his views on fasting and a mainly whole food plant based nutrition, what he calls "mucus-less diet" sounds rather modern, referencing in part to the at that time upcoming ideas of an alkaline diet. Not really a good guideline for an healthy nutrition. However he can be regarded as one of the early pioneers who tried to bring in low fat meat free nutrition (some dairy products are including in his approach without a rational), mainly plant based, but low in starches in combination with fasting (just water) as an alternative approach for healing instead of drugs and pharma products into the discussion, right at a time when "veganism" was not even invented (1944). Those who want to be better informed about the actual state of nutrition and health implications of food and life style are better served with Michael Greger's "How not to die" How Not To Die: Discover the foods scientifically proven to prevent and reverse disease (Air Side Edt) for state of the art fasting you better refer to Alan Goldhamer or Michael Klaper, M.D..

Reading between the lines of this simple yet profound book tells us that aging is based on the progressive accumulation of nonfunctional matter within the confines of the body which ultimately obstructs organ function until a key organ fails and death ensures. The origin of the nonfunctional matter within the body is from diet. If the foods we eat are not completely digested down to simple sugars and amino acids, and these incompletely digested fragments are absorbed, they only serve to obstruct the body's internal mechanisms. Aging is based on the progressive accumulation of nonfunctional matter originating in diet. If we can eliminate more nonfunctional matter from the body on a day to day basis than is formed, we have in fact reversed the aging process. Nonfunctional matter is eliminated from the body through two surfaces: the skin by sweating and the entire lining of the alimentary canal from the mouth to the anus, in particular fhrough the surface of the colon from the goblet cells. The substance of Ehret's book is the same as that found in the HATHA YOGA PRADIPIKA which is a sanskrit text explaining the scientific basis of physical immortality. The key to making spiritual progress is the complete purification of the physical body. For the brain to function on a higher level the substance in the body that limits the electrical capacity of the brain must first be removed. The rest is then automatic.

While obviously not based on modern day science, he was indeed cutting edge in his time. Many of his ideas have withstood the test of time and science. Some however, like the 40 day fast- are not advised. He pioneered ideas like dairy products are not best for everyone (lactose intolerant) as well as that meat may clog you and slow you down,as some heart doctors say nowadays. He also points out that modern man has very little to lose by missing a meal now and then. Interesting reading from a pioneer of modern diet and medicine

I've had rumathoid arthritis for 15 years and the ONLY "treatment" with positive results was this diet of Ehret. No more pain killers, no more acne (thanks to cortisone etc.) no more depression and NO pain or swelling. All allergies disappeared and I can eat almost anything in moderation. Had candida (chronic) - this also disappeared after the fast and never returned thanks to this MUCUSLESS DIET of Ehret. I don't miss any animal proteins in my diet and have no cravings! My husband and daughter loves this diet - they feel so clean! Read the book - it will make all the difference!

Reading this book I feel like a archeologist having just discovered in some anchient tomb, a manuscript containing the greatest secrets to life! Prof. Ehret uncovers in simple language the most fundamental aspects about the nature of the body, accumulation of obstructions, mucous and toxins and the resulting disease, by what ever name they may be called. Also how to go about cleansing the body while transitioning to a pure, natural diet that is meant for our bodies. The book appeals to our common sense and rings clear as an obvious but completely overlooked truth.

I believe that the Mucusless Diet is a cleansing diet and not one that most people do well on permanently. It's a diet that one should use temporarily to possibly correct a health condition. I do not agree with his theory that eating protein is not healthy. It's a shame that Professor Ehret died at such a early age (from an unfortunate head injury) because it would have been interesting to see how long he would have lived.
